So very very sorry Mo.....I thought she would be OK and now she is gone...I can't believe it. I know you must be devastated and I feel like strangling every member of Congress that keep delaying this legislation.
I am going to put a photo of Dixie on a letter that I send tomorrow to Senators that FOBs are directing us to pressure right now and they will know Dixie's story...the story of countless innocent horses' lives cut short out of greed and just evil people.
Dixie had a life to live.....and things to learn so she could become a great horse for someone.
I am sorry we all let you down Dixie.....
Aleta

Aleta I'm afraid this kind of post is not very helpful. In fact I find it downright insulting and dare I say it - immature. There are plenty of people on this board that give all they can to many different rescuing efforts. And there are people out there who have only prayers to give. Just because YOU choose to focus on this horse does not mean they should feel ashamed. If you really want to make a difference for horses- start contacting breeders about the ramifications of their activities. Because saving a few horses you see on the internet can be emotionally exhilarating and apparantly make one feel quite self-righteous- but is not going to end the slaughter. Kate

It seems, here we go again... This will make the third obnoxious thread in just the last few days. As I said before in one of my responses, I am very new to the rescue world and am quite honestly tonight asking myself why I am doing it. How dare we sit in judgment of others? How dare anyone assume what people are or are not doing? I believe, unless I am terribly mistaken that there are a lot of people doing a lot of work behind the scenes where these horses are concerned that may not involve them donating any monies. Because one may not have available funding to help with bail or QT or transport, does that make that persons intentions any less important. I believed when I became interested in rescue that we were all in this for the same reasons, to SAVE THE HORSES. I did not realize that becoming part of this world meant that if a person didn't have a lot of money that the person would be judged as "not doing anything" to help save them. How terribly sad. I am sitting here wondering if it is all really worth it to have to sift through the accusations, slandering and judgment I have seen in a few of the posts recently to support a cause that I believe in. Wow..I guess thats all I can really say right now. Carrie

Aleta Hi Aleta, I understand your passion, and it does seem crazy that with so many people on this board that horses should never ship......but that's in a perfect world. Sometimes it isn't about money - it's about finding homes. I, personally, have adopted 6 or 8 horses thru CBER - and I paid for them, supported them, and rehomed several of them. I just can't do more right now. Maybe in the future.....we'll see. I think you need to realize that there are ALOT of members out there that lurk, that have helped out a whole bunch in the past, but just can't do anymore. We've paid our dues - please don't accuse us of not caring enough. We have probably cared more than we each personally should have! I know I have hidden 2 or 3 CBER horses from my hubby......... ;D Please don't pass judgement until you have walked in our boots. Trying to Shame people into helping probably isn't the best tactic...Just my humble opinion........... Thanks for all you do for the horses - I know that you do alot with the advertising - I am not criticizing your efforts, but please use your passion in a positive manner rather than negative. None of us like to see horses ship, none of us. WendyP/Bend, OR

It is a learning process for all. We all esp. the horses also need their bright passionate energy. All will be well. Kate

Please don't hold this against Aleta.
She is one passionate woman and so truly dedicated. She has been really affected by Dixie's loss (obviously) as she was playing a very active role in trying to get her saved.
She truly means well, and I am sure she is not trying to point fingers, and I believe in her frustration of her loss of Dixie, she wrote some things she did not necessarily mean.....
Aleta has placed over 1000 ads for horses in the last however many months...she stayed up all Saturday nite watching the board and her email account for any new "hits" for the horses still on the lot.....sometimes we do get worn down and it doesn't help when a horse that has a special place in your heart ends up being shipped.
Trust me Aleta--we've all been there....just know that you are TRULY appreciated and I love u for all your efforts, dedication, support and ongoing love for these horses.
Aleta-if u need anything or need to talk, I am always here for you!!

Aleta - I feel that your expression was an indication of being overwrought - not mean. But imagine how a horse lover might feel reading it....knowing that they had nothing to give. Please take this caution about this work. Leave it sometimes, and learn to let go. Or else you will experience constant dispair which is VERY stressfull to your health. Death is not the end of the road for any being. The horses have their angels too. The blight is really upon the human souls that mis-use their custodianship. That is NOT your weight to carry. Sincerely Kate

Aleta is A-OK...and just very upset, as am I. We worked really hard to find a solution for Dixie and she touched our hearts. Who hasn't lashed out in despair at times...I know I do it regularly after these trucks. It is a release, of sorts, when I feel like I should have done more, or found someone who could done more. So please do not take one anguished, heart felt post and let it cloud your view of the whole picture.
There is TOO MUCH TO DO HERE in Dixie's memory- and I will help Aleta do it. And to Dixie, I am so sorry, little love, but we will remember you and honor you...you join Charlie, Shimmer, Juno and all the others who touched my soul. Bless you, sweetie.

Im sorry little one, each and everyone of these horses that has been shipped has touched my heart, its too bad that they couldnt touch my pocketbook also, but thats the hand that life has dealt me right now. In a couple of weeks I see a silver lining and more funds should be coming available to help the others on the lot. Run free little lady, you were loved from afar by lots of us.

New members, please don't be discouraged......I think that Aleta was just voicing frustration. Some people can help financially and do over and over and over......I personally haven't been able to as with the markets down, so is my income for the time being.
Some of us donate time by processing applications for adoption for CBER or other rescues. Even 1 application to process a week is all we ask......go to the CBER website and submit a volunteeer app, or to the website for the rescue of your choice. THEY ALL NEED HELP!
Others help by spreading the word, posting flyers, and yes, saying prayers. I'm one that believes strongly in the power of prayer.
Some have become emotionally exhausted and take a little break from it all now and then, and should not feel guilty for doing so. That allows you to come back stronger than ever.
We're all doing everything we can and unfortunately, there is no way to save them all. The borders need to be closed and a national euthanasia campaign needs to be waived. People need to be educated. Get involved in any way that you can.

Aleta Aleta, I understand your pain. None of our pocketbooks are near as big as our hearts, nor can they even hold all the tears we cry for those we cannot find the money to save. I cry for each and every one. I cry for my own that I daily struggle to keep good care of. I have horse "friends" in other States, with terrible trainers not much better than a Dale Baird. These horses I have kissed their noses and fed them carrots and watched them be put in the local sale by very rich owners that could have afforded to give them a safety net. I'm looking for family members of my own horses who have fallen off the racing, breeding, et al radar. DIXIE and SADIE are two of many we could not save...not for lack of want but for lack of money and homes to place them in. WE HAVE TO FIND A BETTER WAY to help MORE and to KEEP THEM OUT OF THIS SITUATION to begin with. I am crying my eyes out as I write this. On Saturday, when I knew I could do nothing to help, I saved each one's page and pictures to a file entitled "prayers for special horses". They were NOT lost because we did not care. Others were saved because we all are trying so hard to stretch every last dollar. HOW do any of us CHOOSE which to save, unless we can have all of our ducks in a row on all fronts? We need to keep them OUT of the kill pens and off the feedlots. The laws won't help them. Look at California! There are no lack of horses filling the feedlots there, for a trip on the KB/Meatman's truck to New Mexico, Texas, etc, and THEN on to MEXICO. My arms and heart are wrapped around you and around all we have lost to this SICK world and this SICK practice. I don't know what else to say but I can assure you I am sobbing as I say it. Take heart in WHAT THEY ALL LEAVE BEHIND to teach us to do better HOPEFULLY next time...Please God! V Please post Dixie and Sadie's pictures so we can honor their memories in our prayers, in the TRUTH of who they were, not some name given in their last hours on this earth. WE SHOULD KNOW THEIR REAL NAMES!!!!
