Hello everyone!
My name is Delfina, Flash's new mom. I couldn't be happier to be able to provide a safe, loving home for him or more grateful for all of your kind, kind help and infinite heart!
I'm making plans right now for our trainer to come out and give him a refresher, a vet double-check and also making plans for a lot of fun this spring and summer - and every season after that!! So many trails, so little time...
We have a miniature horse that is looking forward to having an equine friend, too. It's win-win, all the way around. I, WE, are thrilled!!
And special thanks to Mo for hauling him out here. Words fail me, I'm so very, very grateful.
Love, Delfina in New Mexico

Likewise! All but 4 of my horses are rescues, & I don't know if I've just been lucky but they're ALL good horses! Some need a little more than others, some have limits (don't we all), but I wouldn't trade them for the world. They are my world! ;D

Newmexican, I am so grateful you stepped up in time for Flash. I was in a bit of a funk over not being able to pull him myself. Where in NM are you? Also, have you been able to complete the funding for him, or do you still need help?

Hi Mo, Storm Lady,
I'm really torn about this website. I click on one page and it's such great news that a horse has been rescued and went, or is going, to a new home. Then I click on another, and one or more have gone to slaughter to feed the zoo animals or god knows where. It's sickening. Such joy and pain, how does one get through it? I'm such a wimp! The facts make me want to cry!
Mo, how do you DO it? And how many horses do you have? I'm intrigued. I'm sure you have a lot to teach.
I live equidistant from Albuquerque and Santa Fe, smack in the middle. I do need some help with the QT fees. I'm not sure how much they will be in the event Flash is well enough to leave early or if he needs the full 30 days (which means another wrinkle in transportation). I also don't know if the money folks can work with me to defer the charges to April; I made my needs known. We'll see. I hope to wrap this up tomorrow Monday by phone and email and will keep you posted.
Flash MUST come home!

Quick question: does anyone have experience or knowledge of altitude sickness in horses? I live at 6500 feet and read that it would take from 3 days to 3 weeks to adjust. I presume that Yakima is at sea level. Aside from work slow, watch for dehydration, anything else?
Thanks!

He will, don't worry. I do what I can, donate what can, & save who I can. I celebrate every save, I cry when we lose them... But I can't imagine the fate - I'm too afraid to watch the slaughter video's, I'd end up with WAY too many then. I've got 26 now I'm leasing 1 to a friend which opened a spot for Aubree in my riding incentive program, and I couldn't leave Spittin At Midnight behind - so he's my last, till I get more students that might consider leasing one of the horses. If you go to the 'Introduce Yourself' thread you can read about people on the board!

Delfina, I haven't had any trouble so far... I always let my horses just hang out for about a month, brushing, feeding, taking walks. I don't ride them or even round pen work, but they're all on acreage so they don't need to be exercised ( the others chasing them around does that but it's natural) I just let them relax & be a horse. CBER doesn't know the histories in most cases, how many auctions they've been run through, abuse, - that sort of thing. But I will say 1 thing I've got to know 12 horses so far from CBER, and I trust Sam's assessments. I have NO doubt the other 5 I will bring home will be great too! Flash will be great! Just let him relax, & get to know you!

Thankyou Delfina for stepping up for Flash. If I could have, I would have taken him..........He will be one flashy boy come summer. The only way to not get lost in emotions here, is to do what you can. For me, who has to board in a suburban area, that means donating financially when I can, and posting the flyers that beckybee sends out, in the local feed and tack stores. Exposure that these horses are available, is what's needed. And MANY horse people don't like to know about what really goes on. If you're computer-savvy, perhaps you can post on different horse boards....New Mexico might be a new state for us......that's where I learned about CBER..........Bay Area Equine Network.

Piopico, I like your advice. I want to be involved and get the word out. New Mexico doesn't recycle plastic bottles much less unwanted horses. No wonder folks don't know we're part of the U.S. (one sale horse respondent asked me how far I was from Puerta Vallarta). We're so far behind the times... As it stands now, I will rummage through this website to get my feet wet and perhaps bring to light another chapter of horses that are in need. New Mexico, with its native american pueblos, soverign communities, infinite horse country, and massive herds of wild Spanish and domestic horses could use some help.
