Poor Angel has a sad story. She is yet another forlorn and forgotten horse who was going to be sent to slaughter. She is in bad shape and really needs some TLC. She has been taken in by one of our own, but she desperatly needs help with the finances. She can provide the time and care, but because of the neglect that little Angel has suffered, she needs some vet care and extras before she will be able to be seen for the true beauty that she is. Here is a breakdown of her expenses... most of these items are still waiting in the wings as there isn't any money to get them for her at this point. $62 Supplements $40 Hoof Trim $250 Dental Care If anyone can help out, even a little bit, this beautiful mare would thank you. She has been too long without love... If anyone wants to send a tax deductible paypal donation, you can send it to donation@columbiabasinequinerescue.info and mark "For Angel"

Thank you tash!! I have been posting updates about her progress on the other thread, but you are right, she is DESPERATELY in need of a float. I will do what I can, but I am unemployed right now, and don't have the extra funds to spend right now. Any help is appreciated more than you know!! Thank you all in advance for donations for Angel. I have the farrier coming tomorrow, I will cover the cost but could use some help.

Even though she is due for a float, don't take food out of your families mouths...she will be fine being fed mush until you get it done!! $250 is high for a float, I would call around. Sometimes you can get a float cheaper by an independent veterinarian who doesn't have to pay the costs of overhead like clinics do....I can get a float done for $100 bucks down here by a local vet and she does a great job....though I usually take my horses to work with me now, and get my discount--I won't always have that option! This little gal is thin, but I have seen much worse....bless you for helping her!!!
Modified to Add: We have a lot of $250-280 floats come through the clinic, but what I meant was if you shop around you can get it done cheaper!! Where are you located? I may know of somebody....

I wish!! I am actually over towards gig harbor, tacoma area. I did some calling today, still waiting to hear back from a couple different vets. I took my gelding last december and they charged me $225 for a float and everything, and he wasn't that bad! guess my vet is spendy, But the first post is correct about finances, I am currently unemployed and have 4 of my own. I am going to be paying for her trim tomorrow ($40) and I have bought enough grain and such to last her a while. (Thank god for credit cards I guess) haha just kidding. I have 2 of my own horses up for adoption, and 1 that has had a lot of interest, so if she is adopted, I won't be stressing too much. Thanks everyone for the support, Angel truely deserves it!!

Angel is really doing great! It is amazing what a good feeding schedule will do huh! My husband (not horse crazy like me) can even see her gaining weight. Farrier comes out today, I don't think she will need anything done with the fronts due to her digging so much, she wore them down herself. But I know Jim will take care of her right. No word back from the vet's that I called. So any input on vets from Olympia to Port Angeles helpfull. I will post pics on Monday (2 wk marek)

I just chatted with one of the vets that I had called, and I really like their fee schedule. They said that it would be about $175 to do her teeth, and they could get her in in the next couple weeks. So , hi ho hi ho it's off to fundraise I go!!

I had my farrier do her feet, he said that she looks good for not having her feet done in over 9 months!! She stood quiet as long as her buddy was close by ( my other elderly mare) even though Med doesn't like Angel at all!! I also had him check her teeth, and he said that she is really about 25-27 and hardly has anything left of her back teeth. They are worn almost all the way down to the gums. No sharp points, so it looks like Angel will have to be on a mush diet for the rest of her life. She is broke to ride ( I put my daughter on her very briefly) with just a halter and reigns, and she is very pushbutton. Has many years to go with the right diet. She is really going through the feed, fine for about another week, then another trip to Del's I go!!

Hey Carmen long time no see!! I'm making a run to Dels in the next few days and would like to pick up a bag of some thing for you. Let me know what you need. I dont have a lot of extra funds but would like to help. $40 is high for a trime seems like you could find it cheaper know that you have had Jim do her. I have had a few trims for $25 from Joe Admyer although you have to haul to him. I know Jim is good so it worth the money. If you need pictures posted let me know. Brenda

Where are you? My farrier is $40. for a draft and $25. for saddle and he will come to you (the price stays the same no matter what the feet look like when he starts). And I know of another gal who charges $35,$20 but she lives too far away to do my horses. Angel looks so much like Platinum that I got from Deb! About the same age. She is a great horse and my daughter's first bareback ride with a halter!

I disappeared from the board for a while for personal reasons, but I am back!!! Angel is good for now, but in about another week or so, I might need something. He only charged me that price because it had been so long for her to be trimmed . He usually just charges me $30 for my guys, but they get done every 6-7 weeks. It's ok though, she deserves it!! She is really enjoying getting pampered, stands so nice to be brushed, I am going to start putting a blankey on her at night, starting to get a little chilly. If you have a chance, stop by and meet her!! I am always home now, trying to get my custom tack biz going. Hope to see you soon!

wow nice place!! Too much for me though. Darn, Keep playin the lottery Carmen, You never know!!! Quick update on Angel: She has really started to feel better now, feet done, legs feeling better, owie on head healing nicely, actually had a burst of energy after she got her feet done yesterday in the round pen. It was so cute to see her do a little jump1/2 buck deal. I have noticed though that she CANNOT be the only horse, she paws and digs if she is left alone. Other than that she is just a gem!! Doesn't test fences, very respectfull of your space, her training is just awesome!! She is going to be a wonderful kids show pony!! She may be an older mare, but these arabs just have such a will for life that I see her living to be 30+ with the right care.

Angel now has a pic and bio on cber main site. I am hoping that someone will fall in love with this little mare. I would love to keep her, but daughter already has older mare to ride! I did notice that she might have a problem with her eyesight, she seems to turn her head to look at you, and doen't always respond to her name. Maybe just getting used to us still.

Due to new wonderful financial gains, We have decided to keep Angel here with us. I have noticed that she possibly has sight issues, possibly is deaf, and I just couldn't think of sending her to a new place, so Angel is going to be staying here with us! (not official yet, still waiting to hear back from wendy) She is really doing well here, and I think that it would be in her best interest to stay with people that really understand her needs. My daughter's birthday is coming up and I am going to wait to tell her until then. She is going to be thrilled!! She just fell in love with this little white angel.

I went out to feed this morning and to get pics and Angel must have bumped her eye on the stall or something, it is swollen, isn't bothering her though, I am going to keep watching it and if it isn't getting better by tomorrow I am going to take her in.

Put cold packs on her eye if you aren't already doing so. Is she able to open it? Do you have any NPB's? Maybe flush it out with some saline and apply the NPB.... It may be an irritation. I would give her a dose of banamine as well..... You definitely don't want to mess around with eye injuries!!! Ack! What next?!

I know! My old gelding did the same thing, I just washed it out with water 2x daily, and after a couple days it was fine. He was very clumsy!! Angel seems to have moon blindness, So I expected her to have a couple bumps. But this is crazy! My trainer is coming out in a few and we are going to do what we can, but if needed she is going to the vet just in case! BTW What are NPB's? I am also going to go to dels and see what else I can get for her. needing some supplies anyways,
