Cloud (Available) Age: 16+ Height: 14 hands Sex: Gelding Breed: Arabian x - Adoption Fee: 435.00 Cloud is approximately 16 year old white Arab gelding. He could really stand to have his teeth floated, I think his weight is due to the amount of Hay that falls from his mouth. He is broke to ride & was responsive to leg pressure & neck reins. He also has good ground manners. $435.00

Wow, he must need some work...his price is "only" $435? It has been a while since we've seen a mature horse with a price so low...(unless I'm confused again?)

Because my guy can do it then. I had a HORRIFIC experience once with a trailer and will only use two companies. The one I cannot afford any longer. ;D And the guy I use is fantastic. The weather did not concern him as it did I. He will hold over when necessary and take his sweet time. The horses arrive here like they were vacationing. It is really cool. Great guy.

I'm so excited for Cloud to be coming home in November. It's good to see he had back up too (thank you from him and I both). He's very thin, but tough. Doing really well at Shawna's. All my geldings looked like him in the beginning, some much worse, and are now healthy as, well, horses, lol, and you'd never know they were as bad off as they were when they first unloaded in my driveway.
I too love the older guys. By the time they're Cloud's age, they should all have permanent, no-risk, no-worry homes where they can just *be*, regardless of what they can or can't do. It's heartbreaking that it isn't that way for so many of them. They get passed around, injured or break down and eventually get dumped again.
According to Shawna, Cloud could've been shipped twice already, but wasn't. He was traded by one kill buyer to another, with the first KB acting out of character to do so. They thought he deserved a second chance. Well -- welcome to horse heaven here in AZ, Cloud! : ) A warm, beautiful place to just rest and regroup for the rest of your life.
And maybe he can keep my younger guys in line, too. My Arab that passed was the alpha, and now the younger ones are like kids left home alone. : )

Thanks for the Congrats, Shawna. Once you have an Arab, it's hard not to have one. I'm absolutely hooked on the breed. Starting over with Cloud and the excitement and anticipation of his arrival takes the edge off the grief of losing a much-loved horse ... if only new beginnings didn't have to be born from prior endings ... but one thing's for sure -- when other people walk across the rainbow bridge, us horse lovers get to ride! Just updating Cloud's thread -- We had a huge dump of dirt last week, to relevel our facilities and provide some softer footing. I don't know who was more excited -- me, because I like the facilities looking all level and pretty, or my husband, who got to spend two days tooling around on the Kyoti tractor! I have to give him major kudos because it's still 90 to 100 degrees here during the day, and I was glad it wasn't me out there for two days in the hot sun eating dirt! I fired the hauling company I'd hired to pick up Cloud when they kept putting off the date -- the last email I got from the person was that the driver decided to stay home and fix his tractor. ?!!??!! I had luck shining on me, though, because I didn't lose my deposit -- it was "returned to sender" because she'd given me the wrong address! Needless to say, I'm relieved it went the way it did, because it's hard enough to find a good hauler, without a bunch of extra worry and stress using a company you don't trust. Cloud's fly mask arrived last week, (I'm the Queen of buying things online, as we're rural and it's so much easier than the ride into town), we're stocking up on senior, alfalfa, supplements and vitamins for him, I'm looking to buy him a blanket, but he probably won't need it now (none do here) if his weight is up. I was thinking of his skinniness, but Shawna said he's gaining like crazy! She says he still has ribs showing, but he's gaining and eating like a champ. (Big hugs to you, Shawna!) I have our vet waiting for my phone call to schedule an exam, winter shots and a floating when Cloud finally comes home, the farrier will be coming out for a trim, and I'm excited to see if the tack I got for Christmas last year for Takoda might fit Cloud. It would be nice to take a little Takoda with me when out riding Cloud. The neighbors (everyone has horses here, and we have some large washes on our property that we let them ride through) keep checking to see if he's here yet, and even the vet is excited (that's saying a lot for this crusty dude, lol.) Cloud should be picked up on the 15th, earliest, and the 18th, latest, so he'll be home sometime next week. I'm so excited! Cloud and everything for Cloud is my Christmas present, and I couldn't think of a better one! Now all that's left to do is WAIT! Em

I'll probably be the update Queen too, lol. I have so many photos of my rescues which I'm uploading to photobucket to share here, but it's slow going on dinosauric dial-up. Next I have to figure out how to post them. And I'll definitely post Cloud's homecoming photos, too. There are some newer photos Shawna took for me posted over at the Lazy Spur board in the CBER QT horses. In one, Cloud was so gung ho for his mineral block, he scraped his nose! Too sweet! He really is a tough guy, doing great and we're just so excited! I haven't gone riding since July, as Takoda was my broke riding horse. I'm only 5'2" and I've always ridden big horses -- I can't wait to see what it's like to ride a horse that actually "fits" me. Hooray! Em Oh, waiting is sooooo hard. I can't wait either. Thanks so much for asking, Cybercat! Cloud was picked up around 2:30 in the morning. Shawna was wonderful, thank you so much Shawna, and knowing how much day to day work horses are, thank you so much for letting them pick up so late. I was up worrying, as I do too much, lol, and the phone rang at 3 a.m. I saw Shawna on the caller i.d. and thought, uh oh, is something wrong with Cloud, or is something wrong with the hauler, because I gave her discretion to send the hauler away if anything at all wasn't good for Cloud. But instead, Shawna said the hauler was great. Cloud got into the trailer and all was well. Whew. I spoke with the hauler this evening, just an hour ago and he said Cloud settled in and is doing fine. He said he's a good boy. He called me when the horses had been unloaded to stretch their legs. He again was a breeze in and out of the trailer. He should be home on TUESDAY! Hooray! I can't wait. I feel like a little kid on Christmas morning. Em

Thank you, Hystyle. So far, so good! Shawna said he's in next to a little paint colt. The transport is picking up one more horse, and then it's pretty much straight to AZ. Just so excited. We're still above 90 degrees during the day, so he'll get a bath once he's settled in and rested. He is a cutie, isn't he. I just can't wait to have an Arab at the ranch again. Cloud's already shown his propensity for bonding with people and equines, which is what I love so much about Arabs. Somebody pinch me! I can't believe he's finally on his way! I've been telling my boys he's coming, and I swear they know what I'm saying. Em Keeping my fingers crossed little Cloud makes it home safe and sound! He is pretty darn cute!

LOL! But quite literally he'll be needing sun block when summer rolls around again. We had an unusually hot summer, even for a place with hot summers. From about June through September, it was 112 to 116 degrees. It's been a nightmare, really, and whoever says "it's dry heat", ha! We had the horses under sprinklers, and my rescue (dogs) had fans and misters that only now aren't needed. It's a great place to rehab a thinner horse, too, because less energy will be burned for keeping warm. It's 65 to 75 degrees at night, but after being used to 116, that's chilly for me! In January we'll be down in the 40s or high 30s, but by February it's pretty warm again. Last year it actually SNOWED! For all of 20 minutes, and of course it was gone in hours, but it was the strangest thing! I have a great photo of a Saguaro covered in snow. I'll post it. Yup, if Cloud was a senior citizen (person) it's like retiring to Florida. Gotta say, I see y'alls photos and I feel like I'm missing out on winter fashion! Em (only a day and a half to go!) 90's!!! Sounds like this boy is going home at a great time....Get out the Sun block! We will be lucky to hit 40 tomorrow! Burrr

Awwwww, thanks Shawna! We don't care if the horses are "perfect" or the prettiest, and it's not all about riding for us either. We love them as they are, and respect their bravery and will to live. So, we take Cloud as he is. I love him already! He'll never be uprooted again, and never again will he lose his equine bonds. He has a home for life. The morning came pretty early for me too, but my husband feeds for me on Sat and Sun morning, thank God. He's the early bird and I'm the night owl, as you can see by the time stamp on this post! It's easier for me to work at night when all the animals are sleeping ... but I am off to sleep now, myself. I'll take lots of photos and post them, of Cloud's arrival. I've almost got the photo thing figured out. Just need to ask in the photo thread what size to resize them to.
