MAHAN - 15 hh gentle sorrel and white paint type gelding, easy to halter, handle and lift feet. We are told his guy is broke. He seemed quiet at the lot and liked our attention. We will get an age estimate next time we go. I ran out of halters and so improvised for the picture and he didn't care! Nice guy. For Adoption Only.

I am gonna go down and flush his eye out for him, get it all nice and clean. maybe tomorrow give him a bath, he is very dirty!
i will call the vet out first thing inthe AM to get him started on some meds. he seems to have a bit of a cold.

So today, I went to the lot to meet Mr. Mahan. I was waiting for Heidi and taking a look at the horses and this paint gelding comes up to the fence just begging to be petted. He was so sweet and when I walked away he nickered and pawed at the fence. I wasn't sure it was Mahan and I was wondering how on earth I was going to leave the sweet boy behind. Imagine my relief when Heidi showed up and Mahan was the lovable soul that had been begging for attention. He is such a wonderful horse. Couldn't wait to get off the lot. I just love him. Lisa got a gem in this guy.

well i just got in and i went down into the corrals, put a lead rope around mahans neck and led him up to the top half of the corrals to trea his eye and give him a good brush down. he did really well. he oves being brushed! he was leaning into the brush so hard. after getting all the dirt off of him, it uncovered all the kicks and bites that he has on him. poor boy had his bitt kicked at the lot!
he is not fond of me messing with his eye. but i did a lil approach retreat and he finally gave in. he knew it felt good. he wouldnt let me squirt any soloution into his eye, so i just put it on a wash cloth and cleaned his eye that way.
he also didnt seem to like to lead on his bad side. he was very stubborn and didnt want to lead, i swapt to his good eye and he led just fine. will have the vet look at his eye to make sure there isnt any damage or blindness.
here are some pics after i brushed him and cleaned his eye. he was very happy to have dinner that he peed right next to it! lol

thanks Lisa and Eileen. I just want to make sure you guys are updated on your horses at all times. pictures are everything. we dont need another chavez. and i would never do that to a horse. i just couldnt.
anyways! Mahan got a clean bill of health!!! He has a "head cold" so to speak. His lungs are nice and clear. The vet gestamates him to be "Mature" he said right around 19. Mahan was awesome for his temp to be taken. it was funny too, mahan wouldnt open his eye for the vet to look at it, well when the tech put the thermometer up mahans bum, his eye became WIDE OPEN!!! i was laughing so hard, so was the vet! his temp was right at 100.
Speaking of his eye, he seems to think that they bottom eyelid was damaged at the lot. he said it looks very recent. there is a small portion missing from the bottom eyelid that is healing very quickly. His eye itself, is not damaged. so that was great news! just the eyelid. he said that is what is causing his eye to weep and have green goobers. He flushed it out really good to get all debris out of his eye. he does not want him to have a fly mask on 24-7, he doesnt want to screw anything up for his eye to heal.
the marks under his jaw "was" strangles. they have ruptured and since healed themselves. he did not get vaccinated for strangles or westnile. But he did get his 5 way. and he was wormed as well. He is also to be on some AB's for his eye and head cold for 5 days. So he is gonna be on "Tucoprim" it is a powder for his grain.
sooo, he is a clean boy!! lol the vet said he looks awesome. he was very pleased with his patient. and he did not have any green snots today, but he did sneeze all over the tech and got her very dirty!! LOL
Lets hope that Chavez gets a clean bill of health too!! good Luck!

thanks Lisa and Eileen.
LOL
Lets hope that Chavez gets a clean bill of health too!! good Luck!
