I saw Neon this last weekend while she was in QT. She is such a cutie. Her adopter is one lucky person.

Neon - Now "Warm Springs Kiva" is here at her new home with us! I am new on the Board this week. A HUGE thanks to Deb who met us at the feedlot with very little notice so that we could first meet her - one day, pre-truck arrival. Another HUGE thanks to Sam for the QT time and care. And the a couple of other folks who volunteer with CBER - Shannon and Kerrie - for their help, support and encouragement as we embarked on this journey. OH, and thanks for those pledges and I'm sure they are being put to good use for another horse. WE love her and she seems to be loving her new "digs". She is in a large sacrifice area with a new 12' x 18' stall. We've been spoiling her every day with brushing and we have our first lesson together tomorrow. Local vet and farrier coming next week. The BLM folks were helpful and we found out she was foaled in '99, rounded up from the Warm Springs Herd (Oregon) in '01. We haven't been able to track down her previous owners/adopters and I would sure be curious as to what has taken place between 01' and '07. How did she end up at the feed lot! I'm not sure how to post a photo yet, but when I figure it out I'll include an update. The only thing missing now is a friend for her . . . Kiva's Girl

Update: "Neon", now known as "Warm Springs Kiva" has been in her new home for a whole week! I am new here on the board, but I am thoroughly enjoying it. A big thank you to all of you who work so hard to save these horses. Kiva seems quite happy in her new "digs" and we've been brushing her and sweet talking her all week long. She and I had our first lesson together today in a local arena, including some ground work followed by a bit of riding. She did fabulously and we'll keep working together. THANK YOU to all the folks at CBER who helped us through this - Deb & Sam, Kerrie and Shannon. The BLM folks helped us track down her info. and we found that she was foaled in '99 and rounded up from the Warm Springs herd in '01. We haven't had any luck tracking down her previous owners. I have a local vet and farrier coming by next week, but she seems healthy at this point. This little Mustang/Appy is already loved well here at her new home.
I look forward to learning lots from all of you!

O.K. - so here again, I posted the first message yesterday, and I have logged out and back in several times since, but the reply just now showed up - with my 2nd posting. I guess I'll eventually get this figured out!

Kiva (CBER: Neon) is enjoying some time at "camp" with trainer's Terri and Matney Cook (Ken McNabb certified trainers). She is doing well there and I love Terri and Matney! They are working to find the "holes" in her training and fill those in. She is easily spooked (like the day my 8 year old reached into his little bag of Cheetos and all but scared her to death! Cheetos probably could attack in the right situation!!) After about 8 weeks of "camp" she is learning to be more trusting and standing quietly for her brushing and saddling. Lot's of work getting her soft still. I am learning bunches myself and enjoying every moment. Kiva has proved to be good in her stall and a good pasture mate - something we didn't know about since she is our first, and currently only. She is a favorite at the barn with the local girls, and even a Mom who is looking into getting her first horse (at the age of 50) next year. Her health has been good and we feel really lucky to have her in our lives. I'm looking forward to some trail riding in 2008!

I AM SO HAPPY TO HEAR THIS. I've been waiting for an update on Kiva. Sounds like things are going wonderfully! Glad you found some really good natural horsemanship trainers. Sending you an email! Oh, and how about pictures? Would love to see some pics!

On the bag thing.... my Mustang reacts badly to plastic bags of any kind. The BLM folks tie plastic bags to sticks and use them during round up and to move them around the corrals and into trailers. That bag noise is one of the first negative things a Mustang encounters with those 2-legged predators, so do be aware that it could be a major trigger point, and should be worked on.

THANK You. I'll pass that on to the trainers, as well. We figured she is viewing it as something that is about to jump up and eat them, but wasn't sure why. I would love any ideas and info. you have from your experience.

Yes, horse eating bags are very bad. See Paladin's thread under Mustangs....
