Oh this is beautiful!! What a wonderful job for him to have in his retirement. Thankyou so much for letting him come be part of your family. He is a surviver for sure so probably a strong guy with good years left.

Milkshake's adopter is awesome. Debra is volunteering as an application processor for CBER. She'll be out for almost a month on vacation, so we'll all be missing her. I gave her the address to this board, but she's currently on dial-up, so will join when she gets a chance. Poor girl spends most of her computer time looking up apps (apparently it takes a while...) and then processing them quick I'm so happy for Milkshake and cannot imagine a nicer person to care for him in his older years

Deb sent tme an update on Milkshake Deb is so cool, I just adore her! Sounds like Milkshake is doing well despite some health issues. It's pretty darn obvious how much he is loved From Deb - Great to hear from you! Milkshake is doing Wonderful!!! He is amazing....a truely grumpy old man whom I Love So Very Much!! He is in excellent weight, sound as a dollar, and a real sweet heart! He is my very favorite horse..... I just love his attitude: "Im over 30 years old, so.....What ever is fine with me" Not a mean bone in his body, just goes along with the program! Sad thing is he is going blind so he gets medication in his eyes each morning and wears a fly mask during all daylight hours! I can not even begin to tell you how happy he makes me, rescuing him was much more than I had ever hoped for. I had always wanted to rescue a horse and Milkshake was a dream come true!! Hopefully It will be many many years before I rescue another...but when Milkshake is no longer with us, I will find another horse, standing on a feed lot thinking...."This Sucks, Kill Me Now"....and I will save him/her as well and before long they too will be thinking...."YEAH, Life Really Is Good Afterall"!! Stay in touch Caryn.....and tell everyone thank you for thinking about Milkshake!!

Wonderful! Thanks so much for getting this update. Glad to hear the old boy has found love and attention. His intelligence and will to live through that winter on the range was inspirational. Many of us love him from afar!

Hi Michelle, Deb wrote me to tell me of Milkshake's passing last June. I thought that I had updated here. I don't think she'll mind if I copy her email in here. Milkshake was very loved and he is missed by his family. He's one of my all time favorite saves too. RIP beautiful boy Hey There..........
Wanted to let you know that our great rescue of 11/07 "Milkshake", had to be put down. Went out in the morning and he was hacking/gasping for a full breath. Had him scoped and found his airway had shut down. It was so very sad but our only other option was to "try" surgery... a tracheotomy....and that was going to be very risky for a horse of 32 years. If he did survive that, the chances were slim that he would fully recover. I just loved that horse, cried like a baby that day. I sat with him before and told him just how much we loved him and what a wonderful horse he was, then I sat with him after and did more of the same. It was hard to leave his side.
We had him brought back to us here on the ranch and burried him next to his pasture and all his pasture friends. Shoot, Im crying again now!
So if you come across another "life sucks, shoot me now" horse that nobody wants, ....let me know. I need one that our 6 year old grandaughter can be led around on once he/she is healthy again. Milkshake was perfect for that!!!
I sure do miss our Milkshake!
Debra
