Okay, so nobody could find my adoption application so I had to resubmit, but was approved! I knew I would be. There was really no question. Apparently it was lost when CBER changed over their stuff.
Still no word on exactly when she might be coming home.
It actually works out well because I will be busy as a 4-H leader at the Evergreen State Fair in Monroe which begins on Thursday, August 23. I am leader for poultry (what, not horses?) and sewing, so I am busy for the entire 12 days of fair!
According to my calculations, if she doesn't get sick, she should be able to come home by mid-September.

Yay! Hey, we are going to have to talk chickens when you have time! I also belong to a nice poultry forum...(absolutely NO drama there) and with so many rabbits, I'm surprised you're not a 4-H leader for bun faces...

Gypsy....CONGRATULATIONS.....you will love your drafty girl....I love mine!! The trainer who got my horse working so nicely under saddle is here in the Bothell area. If you would like her number I would be happy to share. She did a great job with Inca. Her name is Nikki Rasmussen. Let's ride:-) R

Shannon! You never told me that Inca was a spotted draft!!!! I love those! You saw my other horses, the TWH mare and her colt. I love color!!!!!! One day, maybe, I'll have a spotted drafty horse too! And I do want to ride, very badly! ;D Thanks also for the offer of your trainer. I do have a trainer. She tuned up my TWH mares and she is currently training that chestnut 1/2 Arab that's for sale. She also is training my neighbor's belgian. So I think we're covered, but thanks anyway. AND.... I still don't know when Rhapsody will be here. Deb is taking a long time to get back to me with answers to my questions!

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D I emailed Deb yesterday to just check in and see how Rhapsody was doing and when she would be able to come home. According to my calculations, if she has been relatively well, she should be ready to come home by mid-September. So I just got an email from Deb. She says that Rhapsody has not been sick since she got her and I could take her from QT early!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Now I need to get busy and make arrangements to get her here. It will have to be sometime next week since I still have fair responsibilities at the Evergreen State Fair in Monroe, but that will all close on Labor Day! I have to say, my face is starting to hurt from all the smiling! Thanks to all who helped with this big girl along the way

So Rhapsody (now BELLA, which means beautiful in Italian and intelligent in Hungarian) arrived last Saturday at about 11 AM
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
She is just HUGE! I think she must be AT LEAST 17 hands, if not just over!!!!! She is also very gentle. She is a bit standoffish. BUT she is warming up to me. Over the last 2 days, she has started to nicker at me when I go out to the barn and get her hay.
She arrived with scratches and her feet are in horrible condition. I'm working on the scratches. I want to start working with her, but I need to have the farrier out. He is scheduled to come out on Friday morning (Sept 21).
Husband is calling me away so I have to get going. I will try to get some pictures up soon.

Actually April, the white stuff on her legs is just her coloring. I can only account it to a roaning effect. She has roaning on her face, on her legs and lightly on her body, although she has a white strip coming down from her shoulder that looks like a harness rub that grew back white.
I have learned a few things about Bella in the week she has been here.
She doesn't like her face touched much. She isn't much of a "pocket pony". She just doesn't have that "love me" attitude. She will warm up to you a bit after you have been petting on her. Maybe this will change. She really doesn't like her mouth touched. It made it hard for my trainer to get a look at her teeth, but a quick glimpse suggested to the trainer that she's not 12-14 years old, but could actually be younger. I have not had a vet confirm this. She did allow me to scissor-cut a bridle path the very first day. She also had some nasty matts in her mane and tail. She allowed me to brush those out the first day too, but she did walk off a couple of times.
She has foaled in the past. The trainer was checking on her overall condition and gave an udder a squeeze and some milk came out. I don't know how many times she may have foaled. I don't know if mares can have milk for extended periods after a foal has been weaned. I don't know if they can lactate at any time if they have previously foaled. My neighbor (who adopted CBER Martini) said Bella looked pregnant to her as soon as she saw her in person. But then again, she thinks that every horse looks pregnant if they are in good shape and that they are just way too skinny if you can even feel a rib! I really don't think there's a foal on the way, but I will be keeping an eye on her weight distribution and that udder!
Her feet are in horrible condition. She has a few vertical cracks too. I hope they are just surface things and not much to worry about, but the farrier should be able to tell me more on Friday. She let me pick up both of the fronts and I picked them out. She does want to lean on me. But it's pretty obvious from their condition that she has either never had farrier care or it has been very, very inconsistent! With the back feet, she won't actually pick them up for me, but she will lean forward and kind of tilt them up. You can get a good view of the entire bottom of them this way. I'm sure hoping that she'll be good for the farrier on Friday!
On a very positive note, she is very careful around me. I was cleaning her scratches up on her hind legs and she was getting a bit irritated with my scrubbing at them. She gave a big stomp, like they do when they are being irritated by flies. Well, she came down right on top of my foot. But she realized that it was not the ground, but my foot, and immediately lifted her foot off of mine. I didn't even get a bruise from it (and I bruise easily).
Another positive, she nickers at me when she sees me heading for the barn to feed her. It may be that she's anxious for breakfast (or dinner), but I want to think that she also wants to see me.
Yet another positive, she watches for me when I come out of the house and when I call to her, she stands very tall with her ears pricked up and watches me, whether I'm going to the barn for food or not.
And lastly, even though she's not a pocket pony, she is getting so that she will follow me at least partway back to the gate whenever I leave after working with her or petting her.
I would love to have more information on this girl. I wonder if I could contact her former PS and see if they have any more information on any of the drafts. Maybe LauraS has some since I think Bella (Rhapsody) came in with Vesper and Passion.
So I guess that's about it for now. Pictures and more info will be coming along.
