I spoke with jtjedi tonight. She would be willing to take him on if we can get him bailed and into QT. She will take him on the condition that *I* don't let her fall in love and keep him! LOL!
I had planned to put up bail for him myself, quietly, behind the scenes. BUT. Tonight I had to take Phoebe to the vet and she went ballistic and - to keep any of the staff from getting hurt - I held onto her while she bit me. Three times. sigh. So, we had to sedate her ($200) to get the xrays. Then I had to go over to the pharmacy and pick up a Rx of Augmentin ($100 - I have no Rx benefits.) So, there went my Midnight money. (And my hands hurt like #$%^)
So...if hystyles friend doesn't want him...can we raise the funds? Let's not wait - there are only 2 more days and both jtjedi and I will be offline much of tomorrow. You *know* she'll do right by this boy.
Anyone want to help?

Does he have any funds thus far? I will give two tickets to EMD, day of your choice, and a tour of the backside and whatever else you want for every $20 donation!

Oh Caly, Extra pain, in addition to illness, I cannot imagine. I hope you get over the unbelievably, horrible flu that lasts forever, very soon!!! I'm at about 90% ( after 2 freakin' weeks ) and so thankful for it. I could not hope for a better place for midnight then Jamie. I'll send $50 on the credit card to help.

caryn, you rock, thank you!
I'm feeling cr@ppy here, so probably won't be online. I know Jamie is really tied up with work stuff. Can you take on cheerleading for Midnight? Or find/encourage someone to?
Thanks!

Just changed him to "HAS HOME" because he HAS one Come on guys, this baby needs some help! Finding a place to land is the hardest part and we have done that. I know that we are all financially strapped. We're always here, so how can we not be? We need to remember that $5 multipled by the number of people that care, adds up to more than enough to give Midnight a happy future. We just need lots of people to donate a little. We CAN save him!!!

I have a couple people from ads that are interested in him and have forwarded them to Tash. One person actually wants him as a stallion:
" have been looking for a few months now for another project horse for barrels and gaming, especially for a stud colt or stallion with good breeding. If that turned out to be a rescue horse, that would be AWESOME, but he would have to be sound for competitive use, well conformed, and have registration papers in order."
So if one of these people can come up with all the funds, then he would be safe.

I don't think anyone would mind him being outright adopted ;D

I think CBER should geld him before adoption if Chuck doesn't do it first. I think we should fundraise to pay for it if an adopter can't out of principle. I'm sure there are better bred stallions out there and the world won't miss another one.

Hi Guys,
Thank you for your efforts on Midnight! I will make sure he has a good start in life and finds a great home. If he is adopted outright, then all the better.
I agree with Becky on the gelding. Especially if he is adopted outright. However, if he comes to me, there is no need to fund raise for the gelding procedure. I'll pay for it, no problem. The best time to do it would be right after QT when he comes here for training, as exercise is required twice a day to keep the swelling down.
Will the QT facility take on a stallion? Maybe he needs to be done now? It might facilitate an outright adoption.
Champ came to me a stallion. I was asked to take him in as there was no other QT facilities that could take a stallion. Is this still the case? Unfortunately, my QT pen is housing a wild one at the moment, so I cant QT at this time.

Sam has QTed young stallions before... I don't believe there is any problem with her QTing one now.
Midnight does need to be gelded, regardless of who gets him. I would not really feel comfortable with him going to a home where he was to be kept a stallion since that kinda raises the whole question of breeding rescues. I am talking to the folks listed above who were looking for a stud colt, but it will be made very clear that although a stud colt now, that he needs to not grow up to be a stallion.

Thank you Tash, I couldn't agree more. If horses weren't already being overbred, there may not be so many needing rescue. Just look at how many babies and pregnant mares have come thru in the last six months. And you do somewhat have to watch the young colts, especially if you don't have 6 ft fences or electric wire. Woody, the yearly, got stuck on the paddock fence trying to jump into the pen with a 3 yr old mare! Thank God we got him over without injury! He's getting gelded on Monday! I just forgot he was a colt and "they" hadn't dropped until a couple weeks ago to remind me!

I think we all better pay attention to this colt now, because there are only hours left to save him.....the ads have not gotten him an outright adopter yet and may not, so it is up to us to save him.

This is where I think we stand: Kaymacbean has offered training and gelding, but will sell him after training is finished. Not sure how much funds are needed with Kay
Jamie jtjedi has agreed to give him 30 days of training after QT and will pay for gelding.
There is a donation from Caryn of $50 so farWe have a long way to go.................................................
Are we really going to let this colt ship?

Exactly, Aleta. All that stands between this colt and a good future is the bail/qt. Once out of QT he has places to go who will geld him, train him, and make him into an animal that will have value in our society and a much better outlook for the future.

Using the angel fund for his bail is CBER's decision.
Thanks for your help. It would be horrible if he shipped.

I just got another response for him from an ad also, but they want a stallion, and we need him gelded. There is interest in this colt from the ads, so a back up home offer would give him the time to get a real adopter. he isn't even posted at all the possible sites yet.

Can another member here please chip in another $10 or $20 to save a colt with his whole life ahead of him?

Jamie has offered to take the colt after QT and put 30 days training on him and get him gelded. She isn't offering to adopt him. If funds can be raised for bail and QT then that will give Midnight at least 60 days to find a good forever home. (30 in QT, 30 in training)
Wish I could help, but this week swallowed up my excess funds (and then some!)

I am here, although I am going to bed after I post this. Right now Midnight has no home and no serious inquiries. He does have gelding/training offers. He is a nicely built, young, registered colt. I don't understand why no one wants this boy... especially since there are offers to train and geld him. I mean... he would be a young, registered, nicely built, nicely bred, trained, QH gelding. I don't understand why there is not more interest in him.
I don't know what time the truck is for tomorrow, or when I will wake up in the morning, but my cell phone lives on my night stand and my number is 425-985-9204 if anyone needs to get a hold of me.

I don't either.
I understand that "the regulars" are all tapped out and all full of horses themselves. But, he's been advertised. I don't understand why someone isn't interested in him. It gives me a real sense of how bad the market is for horses. It's so tragic. And it's still only February....

I cannot believe that among all the members here, we cannot help this horse.... does this mean we are unable to help all the new horses as well?
Last week we were taken a little by surprise, but this time WE KNOW the truck is coming.....and STILL we do not help him!

The market for horses in Washington is seriously bad. Look at the quality of the most recent batch the CBER volunteers assessed. We're gong to be seeing a lot, a lot!, of fine animals dumped in the feedlot for some time to come. Feed-vet care-shoeing are all way too expensive, resale is difficult...hard to rehome our rescues to free up room and funds for more.
