GUESS WHAT!!! Agave wore a saddle!! Hehehe hehehe!! He was such a good boy. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D He tried to kick, well kinda for his 15th penn shot, but who can blame the boy. Then I groomed him and was taking some confo shots and my friend and I got this evil idea to try saddling him and he cared less. We were by the tackroom and he just stood like a good boy! Then we walked him over to the roundpen and he trotted and canter with the saddle and NO BUCKS!! WAHOO!! He seemed so quiet about it, I started moving the saddle and jumping up and down next to him then with my foot in the stirup and he could care less. SO I kinda went to jump on and the cinch was too loose so the saddle slipped. So then Sarah retightened it and then it was her turn. She laid over his back from both directions and he could care less. Tommorow I will, but we decided to stop while we were ahead! He was such a good boy!! Pictures and videos: Confo: Getting saddled the first time: Standing in the roundpen with saddle on: Me about to put foot in sturrip: Sarah laying over his back: Being patient: Videos: Me jumping in sturrip: Sarah fixing saddle: Sarah mounting/jumping: Trotting around in the roundpen: We are pretty sure that he is broke, well at least 30 days. Someone put time into this guy. Look for more pictures tom, probably with me on his back walking around!!

Agave was a good boy again today. I got him out first and did him before his shot and everything. We had a quick groom and he let me tack him up in the crossties with an English saddle! English saddles are definatly a new concept. Girthing it up must have felt a little different. I did not tighten it much in the crossties, but when I did in the roundpen, he thought it was weird. But he was still a good boy! He got use to it very quickly. The saddle was a bit to far up the first time, so I put it farther back and it looked and sat better. I jumped up and down in the stirrup and then layed across his back twice. He was excellent. I had not ground person or helment so I did not sit up yet or walk around..maybe tom! or the next day! I got a few pictures of him... The saddle is a little too far up in these pics: Saddle is fixed and looking cute. My favorite: Enjoy! ;D

I rode the boy today!! He was very good. I am not sure now if he has actually had anyone on his back. When I set up he kept trying to look at me like...Mom? Mom? is that you. Then I gave him a treat and all was alright. He was very good at squeeze equal walk foward and woah is woah and he was good with his turns. I had a ground person, but she barely had the lead and he was really following my cues. She said he looked really happy to be ridden. He is such a good boy. He was the most nervous he has ever been today cause he was feeding off my vibes, but I relaxed as soon as my foot hit the stirrup. Tommorow, I will either ride him again or we may free jump him and see what he thinks about that. O and no pictures unfortunatly!

We free jumped today!! He was a good boy and seemed like he was really having fine. We kept it low..got to 2 foot at the highest, but he really seemed to enjoy himself once he figured it out. I got a few videos, but of course all the really good ones that he did, my cell phone decided to not record or freeze. I also got some pic of him grazing on the grass in the corners of the ring. He really is looking soo much better. I got my friend to hold him while I measured him, so more precise. He is 14.1 upfront and 14.3 behind. I am kinda hoping he does not grow anymore..well maybe a little up fron then with shoes he will be even, but man will he be a fancy little pony of he is done growing. And his downhillness does not effect his ability to get off his front end at all or his movement. So then with shoes, which he will get in a few weeks it should help him. So here are the videos and the pics: Vids: ;D

Well, the boy is starting to have some spunk about him. ;D I was working him today and the horse that was in the roundpen left and he FREAKED out. Nevermind you this horse just came to the barn last night, so he has no idea who she is, but man was he calling for her. Maybe she looks like mom, as she is all greyed out. Who knows, be he screamed a bit, but them came back to me and started working again. In some ways its kinda nice that he is starting to act hyper..means he is feeling better. Anyways we had a good little workout and then he had a bath, which he has not had in awhile. He was such a good boy! Stood in the crossties like a old pro and seemed not to mind the pampering. I got some photos from today. After we worked: Seraching around my tack trunk: Acting like he was not doing anything: Being bored: Grazing after his bath: all wet: Starting to dry some: Okay so the end of his tail is really white and pretty after being shampooed and onditioned and was trying to show this, but it did not come out looking white in the pic THURSDAY IS THE BIG DAY!! AGAVE GETS HIS TOOTH OUT!!! ;D

Updates from his new mommy! ;D ;D
12/5/07: "Hi Jenna, just a quick update on Agave. Finally got to ride him last night and he went very nicely. Not a long ride but he did every thing I asked no worries. The only thing he really looked at was a "ring" on the ground where the barrels had been for the kids doing a barrel lesson before I rode. He wasn't too sure about that funny looking thing! Once some dirt had been kicked over it the "monster" went away. He is eating well and seems happy although I swear he always looks a little disappointed when I arrive at his pen! Think he is missing you! I am doing my best to win him over by putting a few treats and also an apple with his feed every night. Bribery works wonders so I am told! He has made friends with a palomino a few stalls away and the two of them like to play. They are the same age and size. So far they only play with a fence between them but we are going to turn them out together in the arena on the weekend so they can have fun. He really is a neat little horse. Please feel free to come visit and ride him any time you like. "
Today 12/16/07: "Hi Jenna, Agave is fit and well and doing great. I have actually only ridden him twice due to the cold weather we have been having , but have been doing ground work with him almost every day. The other day we joined in a group lesson with some of the kids and did showmanship work as well as all standing in a line with our horses ground tied while we groomed them. He did so well. Also the last time I rode there had been a lesson in trail where there was a zig zag thing set out using ground poles that the horses had to walk through . The rails were very close together and most horses had trouble negotiating it. I led Agave through once then got on him and he did awesome. Touched one pole slightly going around a corner but that was all. I was so proud of him. You have some a very good job with this little horse! He loves to play with the palomino gelding. The first time I turned them out Agave was so funny. He really wanted to play and the other guy just wanted to roll. Agave was cantering circles around him trying to entice him.He has us all laughing. He is doing well with his blanket. In fact I have got two on him now as it has been so cold here. I still tie him up but he is good about me putting them on. I will be on holidays from my job for the next few weeks so will be able to go to the barn earlier so am really hoping to put in some more time to ride him. I will also try to remember to take my camera out to take some photos to send you. "
