These happy endings are the only way I can bear the horses lost.

thank you. I took a look at her tatto tonight, I think it reads ZJ038L. The only letter I wasn't sure about was the last one. So that means she is 12. She seemed pretty limpy after it started raining today:( Does anyone have access to find out more about her through that tattoo?

The only digit that would be a Letter would be the first one, the others are all numbers. Yes, a Z corresponds to being born in 1996, the next five numbers are their last 5 digits of their registration number with the jockey club. So for example.
Z12345 would be Z= 1996 and the #'s 12345 correspond to the horses registration number.
If the horse was a QH, the tattoo is generally 4 digits ( numbers) followed by a letter.

Cynthia - Great pictures! She's amazing!!
We found out about an anomoly in the TB tattoing process when we researched Pay Day's tattoo ... that is, that in some instances, the first Letter can be followed by just 4 numbers, not always 5. This is straight from the Jockey Club, for example, Pay Day's tattoo = P1132, a valid JC number.
If she's a TB, there is only one leading letter, then the rest are all numbers ... four or five.
The other thing we learned is that each tattoo person creates the letters/numbers somewhat differently. Yes, they are all composed of a dot-pattern, but when it came to the right-most digit, it was all small and puny, compared to the other digits ... like the tattoo artist may have been right-handed and ran "out of room" on the lip when doing the last digit, thus making it really small, and crooked, and almost entirely unreadable!
Would love to drop by and meet you and LB, and I can take a look at her tattoo ... for a second opinion!

oh, duh...I looked at her transport papers, and her tattoo is: Z30388
I went out this morning and brushed her all over and she is just sooo quiet. Not a flinch. Not only quiet, but likes to cuddle, she's such a friendly mare. No wonder she gets along so well with Brego, their both loving cuddly horses:)

She is darling! I can't wait to meet her.
C, I have to haul Ridge up to Woodland on Friday for his bladder scope. Thursday and Friday are shot now for me. I would like to come next week while the kids are in school.
LB looks like she's enjoying the pasture. It must be a great change for her to have such nice weather compared to WA!

Sounds good Katie, hopefully it won't be raining next week. Lotus got to meet my vet today. She's had a couple days of no limping, and a couple days where looked looked lame on 3...So he checked her legs...today no lameness. Report says "legs clean" I like that. She trotted sound around in the mud. Then I remembered I wanted him to check her teeth. She was in the middle of the pasture already with her new friends, but I called her and she came right back to me and put her nose in the halter. Vet said, wow, she really likes you:) warm fuzzies:) He says she should put on about 100 lbs so I've got her on LMF senior. Love this mare, she's really a sweetheart.
MTA: We think she's a solid 16.2H...this is the tallest horse I've ever owned!

She's great!!! I rode her 3 times last week while it was sunny. she's due to foal 4-15. Her belly is HUGE! That's her in the background, Lotus is even taller than her...but Hindrik holds her head alot higher and is much wider.

C,
Got your message. What did vet say about the clicking fetlocks? How are her feet (do you think the occasional ouchy step is due to being a bit footsore?)
I will try to call you today while I drive to Woodland...

Bodyworker, Barbara Chasteen is very good at shoulders. Don't know if she goes that far anymore, but I highly reccomend her work. Shes done wonders for some chronic issues that various horses of mine, had. They are now all remarkably sound. Heres her email: <equiline@sonic.net>

Katie My QH gelding has a popping/crackling/clicking in his hind fetlock - doesn't seem to be lame on it at all, but if anyone has ideas, I would love to hear them............. WendyP/Bend, OR

The vet said not to worry about the popping and clicking. I've got her on glucosamine and it seems to be helping. Thanks Michelle for the rec., Barbara is coming out soon:) The vet thought her lame steps were due to being trimmed and then the long haul, as well as being thin and out of shape...we are fixing that! This pic was taken yesterday-my view from my office. Katie-I'm with you on that one-my dream was always to be able to look out the window and see my horses:) She always comes up to me in the pasture, I really can't tell you how friendly she is. and she has the softest neck fur. such a great addition to my herd. btw: I have to groom these guys twice a day, there are mud holes that they just love to roll in-so that's mud on them-Lotus on left, fat gelding on right:)

Michelle,
Thank you so much for the recommendation!!! Barbara came out this morning to work on Lotus. There is hope! She thinks she has wonderful conformation and a super personality. She is very tight just about everywhere, and she thinks that's why she is so creaky in the joints. Especially her neck, might have had a previous pulling back injury. She does think she can get her sound to ride. She could tell Lotus feels safe when I am near, and nervous when I'd walk away. We do not plan on rehoming miss lotus, much too in love:) Barbara will be coming back out to do more work after her teeth are done on Wed. Katie, I think she could do wonders with Argus, if you haven't had her out already.

My vet was finally able to come out yesterday and float Lotus' teeth...what a releif, they were severely neglected, she had lots of sores in her mouth from her very sharp long teeth:( She's missing a front tooth. This mare is so regal and intelligent. I have to stand there and shoo away the other horses while she eats...I can have whips and ropes flying around her, and she knows I'm protecting her so she just happily munches while I chase off the piggy ponies, she doesn't flinch. I can't move her into a different pasture just yet, so that is my part time job at the moment. So I found out she was born in Kentucky and was breeders cup nominated...she has names in her pedigree like Native Dancer, War Admiral, Man O War, and her sire, won the mere sum of nearly $800,000...and she was just thrown away after making 4 inbred babies..poor dear. I can't tell you how much I love this horse...

Leanne, Lotus is doing GREAT! She's still by herself over at my friends house(no ponies to steal her food). I went to go see her today. She's put on sooo much weight and looks fantastic. As soon as she heard my voice she whinnied and bucked around her paddock-she's feeling much better! Her feet are nice and big, but she still has thin vertical cracks all through them-I think I'll wait till she gains a little bit more weight and her feet grow out a little more before I ride her. here's a pic of Lotus and a pic of her sire
