Age: 7-10 PS: Sam - cberpres@nwinfo.net Shannon was used as a broodmare and originally came from Canada from a PMU farm. She is halter broke and willingly picked up her front feet but was a little hesitant about her hind end. She is very cute and willing but does not know much more then behaving in the halter. Sound at time of assessment.

Look, someone trimmed her mane and spiffed her up.
Could they be that ignorant of what her likely fate is going to be after they dropped her off at an auction?
Shannon and Katie look like bookends. Will probably go to their end together, too.
Can;t someone help these two?

I had one inquiry on these two girls from someone on the East Coast. She never filled out an adoption application...
They are so d**n cute, I don't understand why there is no interest.

Now she still has a chance since the truck won't be coming until Thursday! We have until Wed. 6:00 PM to raise funds. We can't just let her life to consist of being used as a broodmare and then disposed of. I bet she has lots of love to give! She needs a home to prove it.

Placed ad on Bayequest for Katie & Shannon.
Their PMU ranch brand looks to be "IT" and you can read each mare's number easily. They could very easily be traced through NAERIC to their original ranch.
My guess is these two were adopted thru a PMU rescue and then ended up going to a feedlot.

You'd think that the rescue would have something in place so that the horses wouldn't end up in this situation.

I highly doubt they are aware of it, if indeed they did come through a rescue. One thing I noticed with these horses is that they are both wearing the same brand as the horses from that drafty place in Sisters, OR. Big Horse Ranch with the Versatile Horses... I doubt that these mares came from there, but rather they came from the same place that this place got their horses. Maybe they can use two more? There is a Fjord Cross mare on their sold mares page that is the same number range as these mares and she is listed as a 1997 mare.

I have to go....but google North American Equine Ranching Information Council (sponsored by our friend Wyeth Pharmeceuticals). They supposedly maintain a list of PMU ranch brands. CALL them if you have time. I gotta run.
There are several Alberta ranches that do Fjord crosses, one is Blue Moon Ranch in Winfield, Alberta. Owner is Terri Fries. She is a Fjord breeder. If someone call find her and call her, she might very well know where these girls came from.
I would be $1000 these mares are PMU rescues. Look at their neck brand #s --- very close together = same age mares, same ranch. They look well cared for, so my guess is that some PMU adoptors unloaded them. Happens ALL the time.
Gotta go hug my horses, and kids. I feel so sad and powerless.

found this site through google..with same brand IT and length of numbers... lovepmus.wordpress.com/2007/03/04/berlins-history-with-the-pmu-industry/ her mare has the same branding as KATIE and SHANNON then looked up the ranch www.griffinvalleyranch.ca/they used to be a PMU farm, but are now a dude ranch....don't know how to find out about katie and shannon ..though...this is just where they came from.... " This former PMU farm is now a “dude ranch” for vacationers, and they use alot of former “pee line” mares as their trail mounts. Fortunately, the farm Berlin came from actually tried to place all of their animals before settling on auction/slaughter."PERHAPS this FARM does not know there TWO mares are at risk to be slaughtered!! SHOULD SOMEONE CONTACT THEM AND TELL THEM???

PICS OF THE PREVIOUS GRIFFIN PMU FARM from a VET INSPECT www.canadiantack.com/Articles/pmu.htmIT sounds like they really cared for their horses: " Griffin Valley Ranch had the most modern barn and the most horses. The barn was very clean. He has an air exchanger running. I had less trouble with my allergies in the barn then I do at home. The staff were very good and know most mares by name. They breed draft, draft cross and saddle horses. My gelding wants to move there and become a PMU mare...lol All the things he loves. A bedded stall, mares, great food and grain. Good water (our well tastes funny) and lots of attention. Griffin Valley ranch is in the foothills of the Rockies. They run school camps and the Calgary police bring young offenders there for some good wholesome horse therapy. The horses are all turned out for exercise regularly"

Okay, I just called Vickie from the old Lazy Z ranch, and she is going to look up their numbers and see if they came from them. She will try to do what she can, but no promises - they have taken back many many mares, and have reached their limit. They were the ones that originally brought all of the Griffin PMU mares down to Oregon when their premarin contract was cancelled. They placed a couple hundred PMU mares, apparently these two didn't stick.....

This is great info! I hope it helps these 2 mares in time. The Fjord/QH x make great little riders! The Fjords were always in demand on the PMU rescue sites.
