If the hauler is coming back from California to Washington, let me know - cathy@pretzelkitty.com - I have two rescue puppies in L.A. that need to get to Seattle and maybe we can throw in a little cash to defray the costs if the hauler doesn't mind taking them. They'll be in carriers of course so could go in the tack room or gooseneck.

I connected with cat directly.
Right now it looks like Rosy will be coming down in the 12/2. Still working out the last leg.

Caly,
Can you tell me the plans on shipping Rosy?
How is Rosy going to get to Portland on 12/2 when I am going to be in Vegas at the conference from 11/30 until 12/4?
Or am I confused?

Not confused. I'm still working it out.
I sent you an email with details.
mta: may as well keep the rest of you in the loop!
Jamie indicated she could get Rosy to Portland if we could set up a convoy for her. But, the first available ride is next week, and Jamie is going to be gone. The ride is picking up a horse at Portland Meadows, so I called Rosy's breeder - who has a barn there - and asked if she could make room for her for a few days. I know, kinda ballsy, but wth. She said yes, so I wrote Jamie this morning to see if she can bring her down to Meadows this weekend. That leaves coggins issues. Next step is - if Jamie can bring her down - I'll have coggins pulled at the track and expedited. If necessary, the ride can delay 1 extra day for this. (and, btw if Jamie does elect to send Champ on down with her - all plans are for 1 OR 2 horses.)
So - you see - it's still far from a "done deal". Lots of phone calls and emails trying to work out all the logistics.
The next possible ride (that isn't full fare hauling) isn't for 3 more weeks, which is why I'm scrambling to get things lined up now.
Y'all didn't care about this - right? But, send good ride-to-the-southland vibes.

Coggins/travel papers are arranged. It'll be handled at the track.
I'm going to post the plans as they evolve here since it's faster for me than answering the emails and pm's . And this way everyone who is involved - or wants to be - will be on the same page. :-)

Can the people adopting them cover the rest of the transport fees?

the folks aren't 'adopting' them per se, they are accepting them to their retirement facility... they are doing US a favor, not the other way around... I am pretty sure this wouldn't be appropriate to ask them to pay money for them... :-)

I've agreed to cover the Coggins fees.......and to provide an initial couple months Senior feed for Champ until and IF he can adjust to the irrigated grazing pasture...(which had me drooling over its lushness when Caly and I checked it out). If he can't, i.e. would need TOTAL feed support......then I'll provide a Vet's euth.

Joe has agreed to allow us to drop Rosy with him to wait for a ride over to the Santa Rosa area.
Still looking for a ride from Seattle to Portland this weekend to lighten Jamie's load.
Yes, piopico is a very generous person! And, so are you gratefulknits!

Just talked with jtjedi and Rosy is on her way! Champ is not coming this trip - we are still trying to find a place for him. The place Rosy is going may or may not be suitable for him and his needs, so we want to have a Plan B (aside from euth) in place before he comes down.
Rosy will be with her original breeder for the next 4 days back at Meadows. Her breeder is not the one who ran in through the auction where she was sent to kill - just want to make that very clear.
Keep good thoughts for her - she's going to moving a lot over the next week to get her down here. Jingle/pray/whatever for her to be calm and peaceful during all the transition.
people who have offered (very much appreciated support!!) - you can go ahead and paypal to:
shop@reyes.stanford.edu
If you want to send a check, pm me and I'll give you the info.
And, thank you so much!

Rosy is safely tucked into a stall at Portland Meadows. I kissed her good bye and let her know that she is going to LOVE her new home WHEN she gets there.
Thanks to all of you that made this happen. I really appreciate it!

Thank you everyone!
I spoke with the vet this morning. Coggins was pulled when she arrived on Saturday since he was already at the track. So, everything is on schedule.
He said "she's a very sweet horse".
EVERYONE says this!! It's hard to understand how anyone ever thought she was dangerous.

Y'know, I've spent the past couple days dealing with a difficult cat situation that arose cause of some dumb-ass people who didn't spay/neuter their cats and then abandoned them when they moved. I've had a pretty dim view of people.
But.
Pete, Rosy's hauler, knows that I am trying to get her down here on little money. She can stop at Joe's (yay Joe!) but we didn't yet have a ride for her over to Santa Rosa.
So Pete gets on the phone. He gets the Daehling Ranch - a TB racing breeder/trainer - to put her up for 2 nights. Then, Billie from Blew By U will pick her up and take her to Santa Rosa on his way home. Now how about that. Kindness of strangers.
Pete says Rosy has been hauling great. Eating, peeing, pooing. He says "she sure is a nice mare."
amen to that.

Yeah - I wish!
Rosy has made it to Santa Rosa. She's had quite the adventure but she has been calm, and easy to handle according to all the people who met her along the way. The only bad thing is she's cribbing again. :-( Helen and I talked about her today, and Helen is pretty confident that Rosy will stop when she's out on pasture. She's dealt with it before and isn't too worried. I'm going up to see her while she's still in Santa Rosa (she'll be living another hour-plus north of there) and see how she's doing.
Thank you to those of you who made it possible for her to come down here. This poor mare has been through so many homes in her short life. She probably doesn't know whether she's coming or going! But, we're hoping once she's out on pasture in a nice herd she'll relax and have the life she deserves!

Sorry for the silence...been really busy in the cat rescue world lately. Rosy is now at Helen's place, settling in with her boyfriend, Champ. She stayed with Blew By U (Felicia and Billy) for a couple weeks while waiting for Champ to come down. Felicia made it her personal mission to put some more weight on Rosy. Everyone, including her breeder, says Rosy is a light eater. But, I think she must like being a California girl cause this is how she spent most of her time: Here she is a couple days after she arrived: Initially she put Rosy in the round pen by day and in a double (foaling) stall at night. The last few days she'd transitioned her to pasture 24/7. She wanted to see how she did before she went up to Helen's, and she did fine. Felicia really likes Rosy and says she's the easiest horse she's ever had on a layover. Of course, many of the horses they have briefly are horses moving from one track to another and they are still racing fit and racing high! Even so, Rosy is a very easy going mellow horse. I'll be heading up next week to visit them, so I'll post more pics then. In the meantime, thank you to all of you who made this possible!
