Hello everyone, Here are some pics (no the best pics but I will have) of our new boy, we decided to name him "Finn". He is a very good boy settled right in at his new place and did some stallion voicing but then drank some water and took a nap. He is very good, let my hubby touch him all over but is flinchy around his rear end, but he did let hubby cut out a long dirty dreadlock out of his tail. He is nippy and tried his luck at nipping hubby and got his coat instead, but when Bryan poked his nose and said NO and stepped to him, he lowered his head and stepped back like he was just testing. His feet are in horrible shape and need a trim bad. He seemed perfectly content and really didn't care where he was, as the first stall we got set up in the barn mgr forgot it was open for another horse coming in. So we moved to a different one and he could have cared less. He likes to nicker at the ladies...but with a slight tug on the leadrope he was like....oh well and forgot about it. We did get info today that his previous owners had used him as a stud to breed to thier TB's. This horse is famous too, either someone saw him at the auction or they saw him on the internet, I had 10 boarders come right up and ask me about him today and say they saw him. We are going to give him a bath ASAP and schedule his gelding and hoof trim, have his teeth checked, etc. He needs some weight. I will get better pics when we have him out and about, just letting him rest in his stall today after 3 hours in the trailer.

Well Mr. Finn has his gelding appointment set for 2/13. I wanted to do it earlier but of course Dr. Chris is on vacation this week and I have The Mane Event next week, so I decided to do it after that since I will be doing alot of hand walking after it is done. Gonna get him out this AM and try to give him a bath. He is so stinky, They are having a huge horse show at the barn so it depends on how busy it is. Found out yesterday he LOVES alfalfa pellets with Oil (thank you Dean for the recommendation), but is pretty protective of his food, he pins his ears and throws his head at you like "get away". I have never had a horse that was weird like that about their food....any ideas how to stop that?? Well that will give me time to get the farrier out since the gelding is not til the 13th and see what we can do about those horrible feet! (I am going to try to get pics of the feet so you guys can see how bad they are, YUCK!) My farrier does not sound thrilled about doing a Belgian Stallion all the way in Boring OR (he lives in WA and Atticus is right down I-5 from him so no biggie, but Boring is further) So if anyone has any farrier recommendations in the Boring area let me know.

If I didn't know better he looks like he's at Northwest Equestrian Center. I sometimes show my horse there, (dressage shows)... if it is small world ..

I have never had a horse that was weird like that about their food....any ideas how to stop that?? Hey Ash, I wouldn't worry about the food behavior just yet. It sounds like, he's just saying "this is mine!!!" right now. It could be that he has not been fed regularly in the past and needs time to be secure and comfortable that this is not his last meal for a while. If that's it, then the behavior should slowly go away. Don't challenge or back off from him, just stand your ground and be friendly about it (smile/pretend to ignore the ears). If he comes toward you, back him up. He'll understand that you don't mean him harm, but he doesn't get to move you through intimidation. Of course, if you think he's going to get aggressive, do whatever you need to protect yourself Well, that's my 2 cents for the morning. I am so excited for you Ash, he is absolutely beautiful!!!! I love his new name. He really does look like a Finn ;D

Handsome (bucking string horse) did, and sometimes still does, that. Someone told me it's from being fed in a group, and not having had much contact with people--so he "speaks" to you as if you were another horse because that's the only language he knows.
Don't worry about it. It'll go away on it's own, most likely.

If I didn't know better he looks like he's at Northwest Equestrian Center. I sometimes show my horse there, (dressage shows)... if it is small world .. Yes that is where he is hanging out, Shelly Curtis (jellybelly) was more than happy to help us with his urgent boarding needs. There are lots of CBER horses around and friendly people so he is in good company. He walked down the aisle yeterday and got an eyeful of June (previous CBER belgian, who by the way is doing great) he looked like "Oh my gosh another horse that looks like me!!!" He thought she was very cute of course as he thinks all mares are!! He is sucha man! There is Miss June and another belgian Maggie they are 2 rows over from him so it is like a Belgian festival!

Here are 2 new pics from Today. We turned him out in the arena he was a perfect gentleman. Wants the hubby to run with him though, so hubby is tired now! Sorry about the dust on the lense, he rolled about 100 times and it was dusty out there! He was to excited to take a bath, as all the horses are coming in for the bug horse show, so Monday will be his clean up day. Here is one of his YUCKY feet!

Eduardo used to be a jerk around food. Once he realized that he was going to get his food every day, he got a lot less jerky about it.

He was less of a poop about his food today than yesterday, he pinned his ears once at me but will let hubby in there no problem. He is pretty warm to the hubby, he likes me but I take more time to warm up to a horse and get used to them, so we have to have some quiet time alone so I can get a feel for him. I am like that with all my new horses. The hubby is one of those naturally quiet, unassuming people the horses just love. I am a little more boysterious, so if I am by myself with him I can calm down enough to figure him out. The meeting of the minds! LOL
