I guess I have hopes that since we are not a CBER board, just folks that met there and have common history that there wouldn't be much to target here. Yes we do discuss our CBER horses and we do continue to support that effort, but I don't think we have a single CBER BOD as a member, not that they are not welcome here, but I think there are folks here who can provide updates on CBERs horses. Heck I myself was a BB volunteer so without the BB I'm sort of unemployed, and am pretty much "JUST" a supporter again lol. . Perhaps we should have a thread area for advice on how to approach the owners of horses we think are at risk.. with so many rescue heads here I am sure they could give us the wisdom gained from their own experiences. Also we may want to consider not posting names and contact info of people on the open board, perhaps have a passworded section that only the rescues can access to gain contact info so people are not subject to a landslide of negative contacts. Hey it happens even here... the Yakima effort took a nasty turn at first. I'm glad we were able to channel our energy in a more positive direction. :bows to Chatty and all involved: Also another recent situation where someone realized they needed to cut back and was attempting to place some horses, got pretty much ground into the dirt and backed out of placing the horses because of it. We are not talking about gross neglect either, just behind in maintainance after some tough times. So think before you type, reread your posts. I am still fully in favor of removing and banning people who can not keep this a friendly HELPFUL rescue site. I felt we all needed to state how we feel and why and in that way perhaps come up with a compromise that not only works, but that we can all live and play happily with, so keep posting YOUR ideas and thoughts here We are not a CBER board but many of us are strong CBER supporters. I really don't want to deal with people who come here to trash us. As it is, this board is very relaxing and a good place to work. We coordinated very well and saved that last group of horses. I don't know why we need to expand the forum. It doesn't make any sense to me. My nerves are shot from all the malice and venomous trash posted about CBER on other boards. I'm sick of the stupid, paranoid speculation and all the drama and the immaturity and sheer idiocy of many of these people. I don't want to share my space with those people. I do not believe that I can work with them and I really don't want to be bothered to try. They have revealed themselves to be crazy at best and otherwise simply evil. They endanger horses' lives with all their trash talk and they make an emotionally difficult rescue effort even more difficult. They attempt to discourage adopters and when they succeed, and they have, horses die. Why on earth would we even consider opening up this board.

I for one was in the process of leaving the CBER board just because of all the crap flying around. I have found this board to be refreshingly different, and if that difference is taken away, I fear it will suffer the same dis-jointed, mud-slinging fate as the CBER board. This is exactly the way I feel about it. I've just about had enough!

We need to raise more money, and get more volunteers, but we don't want to attract and deal with the negative and the crazy. What's another way to do this?

look outside the usual Horse Rescue venues...check into Yahoo Horse groups, there are zillions of horse forums out there, and many more zillions of pet forums, which usually have a category for people who want to talk horses. There are many 4H and Future Farmers of America groups who have webpages online...and lots of these kids have horses in their lives even if they are not showing horses at fairs, etc... One of my thoughts is to contact the various rescues that you like and ask if we can put our link on their webpages or invite the rescue itself to check us out! We can get the word out there, places that do not include the stomping grounds of our stalking crazies. Branch out- contact people in Tennessee or wherever...we have had previous members in England, for gosh sakes! Put this link in your signature lines on other forums that you post on. Do the local Penny Savers...Put up flyers in the schools, grocery and feed stores....heck, I may even join my sister's favorite soap making forum to invite folks to check us out...

know what I just clicked on? The Google AdWords bar at the top of this page...
and here is something pretty cool...
QUOTE from ADWORDS... Concerned about costs? Don't worry—AdWords puts you in complete control of your spending. Set your budget There's no minimum spending requirement--the amount you pay for AdWords is up to you. You can, for instance, set a daily budget of five dollars and a maximum cost of ten cents for each click on your ad. Avoid guesswork We provide keyword traffic and cost estimates so you can make informed decisions about choosing keywords and maximizing your budget. (Estimate keyword costs)
Pay only for results You're charged only if someone clicks your ad, not when your ad is displayed.
Perhaps a budget guru could take a closer look at how much this would cost to run it for a month or two...

So - my 2 cents - coming from someone who really doesn't know any of you - has never worked with CBER and knew nothing of the "trashing" or whatever was going on with other boards....
I take it this forum is for rescue GROUPS to communicate and get support - which I think is a wonderful idea. To an outsider - it seems that many of you already know each other and many are 'from' or work with CBER.
Being a small rescue in 'Podunk' - I can tell you it's very difficult to get the networking, advertising etc that groups in bigger communities have access to. CBER does wonderful work saving horses in the last hour... but I would only hope that this board doesn't lose sight of the little guys out there paying out of pocket for rescues... and tries to establish some balance so that this DOESN'T become the CBER board. Does that make sense - without sounding 'testy' ? I don't want it to come across that way - but I really like the idea of this being a place for ALL rescue groups to work together and would hate to see the focus shift to only one in particular. Again, I don't mean to offend, just hoping to offer a view from someone who hasn't been involved with you before.
I think the administrators, moderators - everyone is doing a wonderful thing on this board. I too - hate the drama - and that's why this is the only board I have ever spent much time on. I frankly don't have time for the BS put on by people on other boards who are only trying to make a name for themselves - instead of focusing on saving the animals. I have seen and worked with too many so-called rescues who start out "for the horse" and end up being "for the dollar". That's when you stop being a rescuer and start being a trader. I know you need more members for funding, but if anything, I would be more picky about who is invited in. =) lol
