I was wondering the same thing. My concern is WHERE WILL HE TAKE THESE HORSES AFTER HE PICKS THEM UP. I dont think at this point, that I would let him have them. Cant she send someone else to pick them up. I know that this is not an easy task to just send someone else but I would be very leary now.

I hope that she didn't send the rest of the money to him.

When we adopted Junior we paid all of the money to our hauler up front, sent a check via FEDEX. However this was a hauler with good reputation and we checked them out thoroughly beforehand.
Junior was picked up from Sam's right on schedule and delivered to me in Chicago a day early.
Unfortunately I think this is one of those types of business that attract scumbags ... do your due diligence to avoid getting burned.

I think it is standard to pay half up front and the other half when you get the horses. Thats the way I like to do it. So definatly not a reg flag for already having to pay half. I would not pay the other half till the horses are in my possesion. Sounds like it might just be a not well run company. Whats the company's name?

Who are they so we can avoid using them?

I also think it is fairly standard to pay half up front and then half upon delivery of the horses. Paying when they are picked up doesn't seem right.

I've shipped before and I only paid when the horses were delivered to my door.

IF a so called hauler shows up for the horses ( which appears doubtful) I would NOT personally allow horses to go with them as they could dump them, sell them, and/or never deliver them, claiming all kinds of excuses. I would also report the so called company to the interstate trade commission and any other governing agencies. I would be VERY concerned about the welfare of these horses if they are allowed to go as there are no safeguards in place to ensure they will be ok. This whole thing is indeed very fishy, at best a poorly run company, at worst a scam of the worst kind. If the initial deposit was paid with a credit card, I would contact the CC company immediately and put a hold on that for payment and file a complaint letter for reiumbursement, documenting non delivery of work, etc. I would NOT wire any money as this is how scammers work. I know of other people in the past that have had issues with that hauler as well if it is Ziegler. Obviously don't ship with those guys or whoever it is that is doing this. BUT - I will strongly suggest you contact All-State Horse Express. i have shipped horses alot, and they have ALWAYS been on time and taken outstanding care of my horses. They don't ship using semi trucks - only 6 or 8 horse slants with large stalls. They check the horses often and you get your drivers number and the driver calls you ALOT to give you updates on your horse If it is a cross country deal, they rest over in Colorado at their home base and give the horses at least 24-48 hours to rest. They are also excellent at loading difficult horses and take great care with them. A friend had to leave a couple of horses with me for a couple weeks when she moved to South Carolina(husband got transfered) her horses were - ummm- "difficult" to say the least. Couldn't even catch the gelding. We did have them caught by the time the hauler got here, but the gelding threw an enormous fit trying to get him on the trailer and the driver was super patient and worked well with him It was all no big deal and he kept saying - I have all day guy.... no reason to fight.... lol. Anyways - www.allstatehorseexpress.comHope it all gets worked out. Sara

I agree Tasha... I have used alot of haulers and can say without a doubt they are at the TOP of my list. A good friend imported 2 gypsy stallions last year and all-state picked them up and hauled them to quarantine - made a special effort to make sure that they had the whole trailer and took care to give electorlytes right off the plane as well Great company. Please be very careful letting the horses go with these people! What if they break down with no money? If someone will post the hauler we can check them out. There is a transportation group that answers questions on yahoo.

*IF* these guys show up for the horses, PLEASE get photos of the horses as they are loading onto the truck. Make sure to get the trucks license or other identifying marks in the photos to show that yes, the horses did get on the truck. Make sure the guy sees you doing this. If at all possible, make him sign something saying he has picked up the horses. Then maybe he will have second thoughts about any thoughts he may or may not have had about not delivering the horses.

The low bid on these horses made me very nervous. I would not be surprised if things go south.
***What did the adoptor do to check out this hauler?***
What kind of equipment are they using? I hope an air ride. Going XC in January is absolute hell on horses.

I had a guy out of Gig Harbor, WA bring me Miss Molly. He was great! Kept me up to date and was very nice. He is retired and likes to primarily transport horses that are rescues.

I don't think the new owner has paid much of this haul out of her pocket, I think most of it was raised over the last few months on the boards... have they picked up yet?

I am so sad to hear about all the trouble for these kids. If it is not too late to reschedule with a different hauler, I strongly suggest doing so.
Call allstate and explain things - they may give you a price break. Also - when I hauled in the past during the winter, they kept the trailer heated - not hot, but kept it so it was a comfortable temp for the horses even if they were not blanketed. They also would stop and give the horses warm water along the way.

I have used WeHaulHorses twice and they were great!! They brought me Sarge from OR. and did an AZ haul. At this time of year the mountain roads are bad. JD and his wife have tons of horse experience especailly with Tb's. Not to worry, Rocky

guess the way I formatted my post was unclear. I used Ziegler and they were great. I had zero issues with them: the driver was available via phone at all times, they stopped every night and rested and Junior was home to me 24 hours early!
I was very satisfied with their service.
That said Junior was shipped to me in Spring (March) and they probably didn't encounter the kinds of weather this hauler seems to be dealing with.
