UPDATE!
Just returned from a weekend in WA, yes... went to see my big guy and introduce myself officially. Hi is soooo amazing. I can hardly sleep at night awaiting his arrival in California. He is gentle, smart, and very agreeable. I feel like we know each other a bit already. I just spent time hanging out with him, sitting in his pen, and letting him come over to me as he wished... and he did often. He ate up my affection and my apples, and then we said goodbye. I cried for at least a half an hour as I drove away from him to come back home. Just got flooded with emotions.
It was great to meet Sam, and she is taking wonderful care of him. He just got his vet check and was a good guy for the vet too.
Jumping out of my skin... life is good now that I have a horse again ;D.

Congratulations, again, Trish! We are all so excited for you. It must be so hard to get through each day knowing that all you can do is hurry up and wait! Once he gets here and gets his sea legs, please let me know. I'd love to come crash the party at his new digs and bring him some California goodies! Yippee!
Hope

Yes, Hope, it is sooo hard to wait for him, but all good things in time. I think of him all the time, and somehow hope he senses that I really love him and will give him a great life.
I've been having this recurrent dream that I see him up on the hill at Sam's looking out into the distance wondering where I am and why I'm not coming to feed him apples.
When I was there with him, a bald eagle flew over, directly over his pen... a powerful sign to say the least.
I am in awe of all of you and your tireless efforts to save these horses. Great job on this last batch.
Sam is amazing for getting CBER started and keeping it going. I've seen with my own eyes the endless work she does and how happy the horses are in her care.

Hey Trish - I am so happy you adopted Cavalier!!! My husband is even happier!!! He asked me what I wanted for my birthday, and I showed him Cav's picture! I wouldn't have let him ship, but boy did I NOT need another horse! I just brought home Doodle after a year of hiding him at hystyle's house - Cavalier would have been really hard to hide! He is a beauty though! Please keep us updated! If he needs somewhere to layover on his trip to CA, he's welcome to stay here......you might not get him back though! Aside from the many I have already adopted, Cavalier and Juno have been two of my all time favorites...........thankfully Cavalier has a happy ending. WendyP/Bend, OR

Hey Wendy,
Thanks for the layover offer, it was very sweet of you.
Cav is coming down the first weekend in December with Sharon from Faraway Transport. I think they will drive straight through and stop for rest, unload and walk the horses periodically.
Have two weeks to get everything ready for him, have bedding delivered etc.

Hi Trish,
Congrats on your new addition to your family!! It is because of Cavalier's pic on the lot that I am now here and involved in trying to help CBER and its horses.
I was browsing the internet one day and stumbled upon CBER's website and saw Cavalier. I am a big lover of Belgians and his eyes were so captivating to me and pleading. I quickly jumped over to the Alex Brown Racing board and saw that there was a little thread going for him and others. Well, next thing I knew I was right in there, donating and bumping up the thread....we eventually created a new thread just for him and one other horse I believe. He HAD to be saved!! And he was and now he will soon be on his way to you!!
As for me, I am now a CBER volunteer, and with a group of amazing and wonderful women, we place ads all over for the next groups of horses, work day and nite to try to find homes and funds for them. And just recently, all 14 horses on the feedlot were saved!!!
So, thank you again, and thank you Cavalier for opening my heart!! I look forward to reading lots of updates and seeing lots of pics of this handsome and gentle boy!!!

Hi Kirsten, So glad that Cavalier inspired you to get involved! Yes, he does have that look in his eye doesn't he? The way he looked at me in person was the BEST! Hope these pics come through okay. Warmly, Trish

This is such a wonderful story. The fact that Trish took the time to fly out to WA to meet her new friend is so very cool. I know Sam was tickled to have been able to spend time with her. It's nice that Cav will have a familiar person waiting for him to come home.
We love having yet another CBER horse coming "home" to California!

Hey, just wanted to give everyone an update on Cavalier. He arrived home today without a scratch on him thanks to Faraway Transport (wonderful folks). He happily backed off the trailer, said hello to all the horses at the farm, and then walked very nicely to his 16 x 16 stall where he had beautiful hay waiting for him, a bit of grain with electrolytes and probiotic, and lots of love. He ate away, took a good pee and then rolled a bit in his bedding. Got his blanket off after a bit of coaxing (its a closed front). Had his blanket on for the ride as it was 17 when he left WA. After a couple of hours of eating and drinking lots of water, we walked up to the arena. There he said hello to the other horses he could now see, had a good poo, and then had a great roll (he goes completely over several times, fun to watch). He ran around a bit and talked to the other horses a lot, but basically was very observant, happy, calm, and didn't seem overly stressed or sore from the long 14-hour ride. I am very thankful that he had a safe, noneventful, stressfree trip, and I love him more and more with each hour that passes. Here's the link to a little slide show I made for anyone that is interested. s70.photobucket.com/albums/i96/plane8/?action=view¤t=75e6c2f1.pbwThanks to CBER, and Sam, and all of you hard-working volunteers that work behind the scenes, I have an awesome horse to share my life with. Thanks so much! Trish

oh god Trish he is Soooooo handsome. You are really going to have some fun with him. It can be such a crapshoot but when you can get a horse that has a great disposition that makes for such a lovely time, no matter what else goes on.
Have Fun!!

UPDATE!!! Cavalier has had a name change. He just seemed more like a "Maximus." Max and I have been working hard together. After a month of lunging with a surcicle and bit, and then introduction of a light synthetic saddle, we had our first ride on New Year's Day. He was extremely nervous, but tried really hard to be brave and good. He didn't bolt or buck and responded as much as he could understand to what I asked of him. He can't handle much leg pressure and knows nothing, but he wants to try, so it's just going to be a long journey with him. The journey has begun... and we are really happy together as a team. He got his teeth floated a few days ago and they were very much in need of it. He was a champ for that too. He's a great horse, and I feel like the luckiest girl in the world to have found my match. Hope you enjoy the next little slideshow. s70.photobucket.com/albums/i96/plane8/?action=view¤t=ca94b58f.pbwTrish
