I remember that someone was putting together some '07 calendars.
Did this ever happen? If so, I'd like to purchase a couple of them.

My ears must have been burning this morning.......
Yes! A calendar WAS in the works, however for personal reasons one of the volunteers working on that had to back out, and another is no longer with CBER. I was only in charge of collecting the photos, many of which can no longer be used for various reasons.
So - this morning while ordering prints from Shutterfly, including a family calendar, I thought I'd start the project up again.
I need to straighten out a couple of details and will get back to you all. If anyone is interested in helping, or knows of a company that will print calendars at a discount for us, please send me a PM.
Thank you! Stacie

I volunteered previously on the cber boad to print calendars but never heard back.
I have a fancy 11x17 duplex color laser printer that folds and saddle stiches. My internal cost for printing a full color 2-sided page is about $0.20 (we charge $2), not including paper. Say nice paper at approx $0.10/sheet, one calandar of seven 2-sided sheets would be be $2.10 each, folded and stapled. Someone would have to punch a hole in the top, though!
I probably wouldn't want to print more than about 350 calendars, at that point offset gets cheaper. I also have desktop publishing software to do layout. Let me know!

Alright, let me see where we stand on photos, who they're from, etc. Then we'll put the call out for more if needed. There's already a bunch that I know should not be used, darn it.
BB - that sounds awesome.....
Anyone that is willing to help with this project, would you please PM me with all of your contact info? I'll contact the former volunteers to see if any would like to climb back in the saddle with us.

Are you going to do the little "before" in the corner, with the big "after" - I really liked that idea. Some of PEC's are pretty striking, especially Mr. Bones. How about Adam or Blaze, with before, after shipping and now? I guess it's a little gorey, but it's amazing the beautiful horses that are hidden inside and people should see what a little food and care does for them.

I don't know how far it's gotten, but I guess we need some pictures and a covergirl (or boy!) On the calendar pages - what about dates of legislation, birthdays of celebrity horses, that kind of stuff?
12 horses, plus cover (just thowing out names) Some for contrast: >Adam >Gary >Mr. Bones >How about a pregnant mare before with after w/ foal >Some fat & glossies (why are they there?) >One or two that were lost (Juno for cover? A lot of people have her picture posted over their desks anyway as a reminder)
(Sorry for inserting myself in this - it's already January! We gotta get going! Honestly, tell me to back off if I'm overstepping or treading ground already covered. I get carried away!)

If theres' room is there anyway we could have Morris in the calendar as one that was lost.... was a yearling colt that was shipped before he could get picked up...

The memory page is so sad - it's really hard to see these guys and think of what happened/is happening to them.
There will be a bunch of blank space available: collage of "happy home" pics? Lists of other rescues? Info/background of cber? What YOU can do to stop slaughter (with list of senators to write to, etc.)?

Great ideas ladies....I want to have a little of everything in there. And a memorial page would be so sad, but so appropriate. We'll have to do some little cyber cafe' meetings to get things rolling...wish we were all in the same area! I do still want to do a before, and after, so people can see the potential that is on that lot!

OK...it's kinda artsy, but I love this one. Here's a pic of Dream by a photographer friend of mine: If you like it and wanna put it in the calendar, then let me know via PM and I'll send it over. No pressure. I won't be offended if you don't want to include it. There are only 12 months and LOTS of beautiful horse pics to choose from

Remember all those pregnant mares - why not include them and their foals?
I really don't want a sad calendar. I don't need to be reminded of slaughter the the horses we couldn't save.
I'd like one with the foals - new lives that would not have been born had it not been for CBER.

I like the before and afters, but I'm kinda leaning towards all after pics. A calendar that celebrates life and shocks the heck out of people when you say, "these WERE slaughter bound horses!"

oooh, caryn! I was already going to ask you to send me a pic of Dream, or I was going to just go and take one, lol....that is beautiful!
Yes, submit please.
I wouldn't mind a page in the back w/ before photos, and a "now look at him in April!" kind of thing. It doesn't hurt to show people that those are diamonds in the rough on that lot sometimes.

My .02 for the pennies it's worth: I don't think we should feature pictures of horses we lost, it's sad and depressing. This should be all about success stories. However, an option would be to list inside the back cover, the names of the ones we couldn't save. Or something like that.
I also like beckybee's suggestion of adding information on the stop slaughter campaign.

You're right Jen....while we don't want to forget those we've lost we really want to promote happy, success stories that'll inspire people to look for their next horse through a rescue. A list on the back inside cover of calendar would be appropriate of those we lost.
BTW~anyone interested in scheduling a chat re the calendar?

Let me look at my calendar.....later in the evenings would be best for me....maybe Wed night?
If someone wants to set a time for Tuesday night it would have to be after 9 or so as I have Guide Dogs. Wednesday would be good, around 7 or 8? PM me if that works......

I'll try to jump in for the conversation on Wednesday, but if I don't make, please bring up this thought...As an additional Fundraiser, let's add people's birthdays, the date they adopted their horses from CBER, and other special days to the calandar and charge them a dollar a date. I was raised in a small rural area and this always was a good money maker...everyone loved seeing their names in print and it also helped them to remember these significant events... so maybe I'd buy a calendar and pay an additional $5.00 to add my family's birthdays and anniversary...... Actually, I need stocking stuffers for Christmas next year for extended family, so I'd probably order 8 more calendars and have all their birthdays added to it also....
Oooh, and in the leftover space where the end of the month is, how about a meaningful quote or story about a rescue horse?
This does make it a bit more time consuming, but fundraising sometimes needs an additional shot in the arm...
modified to add: I also wanted to add my vote for a primarily happy calendar...a celebration of life and the joy of sharing these fantastic creatures with others.....
And if this is successful, how aboutdoing this for the other rescues too? The world is the limit!

Let's do the CBER calendar first; get it going, and then if the other rescues also want to do it, and can help with it.....why not? It definitely wouldn't hurt to keep the option open.
Let's plan for Wed at 8....I just put it on my cell...who needs a blackberry? lol

I agree with those who want a happier calendar. At the end we could possibly have an "In Memory Of" page dedicated to the lost horses with/without a small pic of each. As far as the days of the month, would it be possible to have the AFTER pic take up a whole page with an inset of the BEFORE pic on one corner? (Hope this makes sense) That way the pics, even if they're a bit graffic, wouldn't be overwhelming.
I will try to make the Wednesday evening chat.

Why not make it possible for people to "purchase" a month for their horse (assuming it meets whatever theme requirements you decide for the calendar)?
For example.... Someone has a great Before/After and wants to show off their horse... maybe they can submit their horse for the calendar for $50 and then people vote for which horses to use? Something like that?

Adding names/dates to calendar will be VERY time consuming. You have to spend extra time for spelling, accuracy, etc. or people get upset. Or maybe sell dates for $5 or $10 each - now we're talking!
