I'm sure Jamie will post later, but here's a quick bit: Jamie became very sick immediately after riding yesterday morning and ended up in the hospital. She was treated for dehydration. The thought is it might have been food poisoning (although I've known several cases recently with the same violent symptoms, so I think a bug, and a VERY nasty one!). She was discharged later in the day, but is still very weak and was unable to return to the expo at all yesterday. So, although it is sad she didn't make the top 10 (she placed 13th) she wouldn't have been able to ride in the finals anyway. Angi (of Lifesavers fame) rode Monty through the auction. All in all it was a rough day, but with a happy ending cause Monty is staying with Jamie!! ;D ;D And, can a I just tell you what a sweet boy he is!! And, I am a convert. I love my nut-case TB's but my *next* horse is going to be a mustang! (relax, Jenm, it's not going to be any time soon )

I saw you at a distance Barb........I was a bit disappointed in the prices they were bringing. It was getting late and we had to drive back to the Bay Area, so we only saw a few- but $400 for a wellstarted gelding? What were the highest? Like that lovely black mare......and Tina Turner?

One went for 10K,, and the highest went for $32K!!! so yes, some went for more. Our friend Bev's went for 5K, to a lovely family... and most went for over 1K... the auction today went similarly... the majority went for the 1-2K range, those who could spin seeming to do better... the nice broke trail horses went for under 1K, and a mule went for 3K, several older well made horses went for near 5 + K, one older teen mare who was half draft went for $400.. .very sad as she was scared to death and herd bound... made a LONG trip here from Idaho, and was in a foam for hours after the auction locked in her stall, top and bottom dutch doors and she fought and fought to get out... poor lady. we watched one of the last mares going for $400, then got in the bidding on her and brought her home... she is a VERY nicely bred mare, halter gal, 16 years old... great trail horse, and her full brother went for 6K as a 3 day old... from Impressive lines, so built like a brick house... she is a liver chestnut. so, one more... nice riding mare. the prices were VERY low for the quality today... sad.

Those mustangs were so darn cute! I am so impressed with the people who participated in the challenge. No way could I stick around for the auction though, it would have made me sad. Barbpurple, I'm bummed I didn't get to see you. I tried calling Tockita Saturday afternoon but her cell phone wasn't accepting incoming calls. Congrats to Jamie. She gets to take Monty home with her. It's a great story and I'll let Caly share it! I'm disappointed I didn't get to meet Jamie, but I did get to meet Monty!

I tried calling Tockita Saturday afternoon but her cell phone wasn't accepting incoming calls. Because she left it charging in the barn during the horse course and it (and its charger) grew legs and walked away, She now has to go buy a new one and get it turned on again but has NONE of her phone numbers because they were ALL IN THE PHONE! So if you still love me... PM me your numbers so I can add you back in ;D Monty was fine when we left about 5, Prosperity is going home with a couple and an almost 5 year old boy who was very happy to learn that she as 5 like he is going to be. Prosperity ended up loving the kids and all the attention.. in fact she was trying to steal purses.. and sips of lemonade before the weekend was done. Angi did ride Prosperity for about 2 seconds on thursday... She was doing a bit better, more humpy then bucky when she was being worked with other horses so Angi decided to get on while steady Eddie Monty was there to play pony boy. I am told (child did not video it!!) As soon as she settled into the saddle I am told Prosperity went straight up then brought her hind end up to meet it with a snap. In the words of two witnesses, Angi was launched like a "bottle rocket", went head over heels at least twice, landed on her back and ... bounced! Angi said she should have known better then to get on her but she wanted to try just in case she could get one ride in. Her trot was so flat backed and she had been looking forward to feeling it under her bum instead of her belly. She needs a little more time to get over her fear of the saddle, but she was certianly a different horse then the one that arrived. I think 10 more days could have made a difference in her, and in Monty's lope and lead changes. Angi ride Monty briefly on friday and told Jamie she had done an EXCELLENT Job (which we all had suspected ;D) Monty was soft and responsive, moved out nicely and freely. Angi loved him! So to ride him in the adoption was nice as well, except that she was not wearing spurs (we all forgot Jamie rode him in them) so it was hard to really show him off. They introduced her as Jamie so Angi had to tell John Lyons she wasn't Jamie.. and he told her she was cute enough to be which left us wondering if there is something Jamie hasn't told us lol! John Lyons gave a talk at the breakfast the next morning and they invited the families, it was wonderful. Of course you know I balled my eyes out on sunday, and Angi told me I had to stop cause I got her started. It was ever so hard to drive away and leave Prosperity knowing she was expecting us to come back, put her into MY trailer, and take her home like we have done every other time she left Angi's house. The part that makes it at all bearable is the vision of that little boy standing on a chair infront of her stall petting her, and watching her nuzzle him. That and that her adopters are said to be friends/clients of Chris Cox and that when she goes to finish her training, she will be going to someone we are pretty sure won't mess her up or rush her too fast. So very mixed feelings. I kept imagining doing that to one of mine and thinking how sweet Properity is. She turned into a real pocket pony except for the saddle.

Nice synopsis, Tockita! I enjoyed reading it. I'm so happy for Prosperity. It sounds like she is going to a great situation.
I'm sorry I didn't get to see you guys. I will PM you my phone number to show you I do love you!

I wish I could have hung out with everyone more but I was the only transport for 2 of the trainers, staying at different hotels, and helping out on the ground for them. I didn't get to wander about too much.. plus once my phone was gone I could only call people if Beth was with me and not off wearing a horse suit. They had to be there Sunday to feed and have breakfast with John Lyons.. and invited the families too! So once we arrived Sunday and fed the horses it was breakfast time and thank you speeches. Then it was pack up the tack room and wait for Prosperity's adopters. We finally left without being able to help load her and I got home at 7 am this morning, with 3 hours of sleep (12-3am)

I think she had hoped to get everyone together saturday and maybe have dinner, but without my numbers I couldn't call any of you!
When we discovered that Jamie went to the ER and we needed to help with Monty as well, it got crazy! Jamie's friend ran to the hotel to bring back Jamie's saddle. Jamie was planning to come back and speak about Monty so I ran a chair up to the backside of the arena for her to sit in when she came.
I ended up sitting by myself in the stands at the end of the arena. I saw Beth and Marty go by after the drill team started, but they were already past me. I know Chris and Jill were in there somewhere.. as were the rest of you, but by the time I got in there was no time to look for anyone and the people kept coming in right up until the opening stuff was done.
I think Angi was in back with Jenna but I never asked where she watched it from.

Yeah, it was my hope as well, but life intruded in a BIG way and I was lucky to get there at all - only to find Jamie was in the hospital. I spent some of the finals sitting with pnp4kidz and family and the rest wandering around looking for Jamie or Dodge (her friend). Once I found Dodge and learned Jamie hadn't been able to return my focus was 100% on making sure Monty stayed with her. I know she said she wasn't going to keep him, but I also knew she was likely to change her mind once bidding started, but with her not there...... Anyway, it meant I was very preocccupied and not very sociable. Then, I went home that night to get my act together there, cause I wasn't sure if Jamie was going to need company/help to get back north. (Dodge had to fly out the next day). But, she's okay and chillin' with some friends before she does the long drive home. So, she's okay and Monty is with her, and we'll have to try to plan better next time. I do apologize for any hurt feelings I left in my wake....

I think the timing of the night just made eating impossible. We actually ate Mc Ds at midnight when we headed to the hotel.
We had to get up and to the Expo early as the horses had to have time to eat and the trainers needed to be walking the courses at 8am Friday and Saturday, and they began their events at 8:30 with people still outside the gates!
Friday afternoon we went back to the hotel to sleep because the arenas were all full of Expo events and sale horses and went back at 9pm so Angi could help Jenna and Jamie.
I think I made it to the Expo buildings twice! Once to say hi to the Lifesavers folks, and on Sunday before we left to grab some rope.. (Beth wanted a yellow halter for her Challenge yearling Zoe) I was too broke to shop anyway so it's better I was busy.
Now the Western States Wild Horse and Burro Expo in Reno... will be a show and we will just be entered in a few classes and maybe not on "display" like the Challenge horses were at the Expo. Prosperity got petted so many times I am surprised her face hair didn't wear off like an old stuffed toy!
Barbs booked flight home was late, because the adoption was originally during the day, but she was talking about leaving earlier.
I picked her up from the Airport on thursday but on Sunday we were at the breakfast until after 10 and then packing and loading. I couldn't imagine dragging the horse trailer through the airport and we had hoped to leave by 1.

Yikes!!!!I think I was supposed to "possibly" meet up with everyone on Sunday and take Barb to the airport. I am so sorry!!!! Cat had surgery last week and Mom was taking care of him while I was away. I received a phone call that she was worried because he wasn't eating on Sunday morning. I skipped the expo that day and went straight home....Sorry again, it was kinda hectic all the way around. I was beat too. Having left the expo around 11:30 pm Saturday night, I went back to the hotel and slept. I fully intended to go back on Sunday, but was too worried about my cat to consider it....

The black is Luna (and Matt Sheridan) they finished 3rd overall and did GREAT In Hand. He lives down this way. He was hauling Aim and Prosperity home from the pick up, but broke down so I hauled his trailer from Elk grove to Sac and back while the truck got fixed.
Matt is a trainer and Special Ed Teacher. NICE man, a real class act! His wife is so sweet, great kids. A local (to him) lady bought Luna and sent her home with Matt to get ready for the Western States Wild Horse and Burro Show in Aug.
Handy Hank was awesome but got Tina Turner, Luna, and Laredo a bit frazzled when she showed up wearing all those cans. Laredo and Luna managed to hold it together but Tina was just not herself in the finals and Keith decided to stop before she had a melt down.
Luna at one point was doing a little Piaffe and Matt started to pop and bobble along with her. Really cute! I have to upload the videos!

Luna at one point was doing a little Piaffe and Matt started to pop and bobble along with her. Really cute! I have to upload the videos! LOL! I thought he HAD planned it! Mocha is beautiful!! Hard to believe she was going for so low. The prices were unbelievable (low!) It was so weird - about the 3rd horse in on the Sat nite auction the people in the stands just stood up and poured out. Probably half of them left. I don't think they wanted to see how low the prices were for these amazing horses we'd been cheering just moments before.
