Well, I SURVIVED the last day of school. The kids lined up at the door and I hugged each and every one of them! What a sweet group of kiddos! I will miss them!
Joe sent them each one of them a present and 2 halters from 2 of the racehorses. I will add the halters to my "horse wall" in September. They raised over $280.00 for Joe and his horses just in the few months we recycled. Imagine what we could do over a whole school year!
We are on our way to Joe's in Woodland. I can't wait to meet him! I have a couple of presents for him.
Did you all read his blog this morning? About how he will spend a night with a TB, holding its leg up so it doesn't injure itself? I was a puddle of tears.! These wonderful animals...just tossed away like garbage! Ugh! THANK GOODNESS for Joe and others like him! And, for ALL OF YOU and for ALL the horses we have rescued! Think where they would be without us!!!!

I am envious too! I know you will have a great time with all those TB's and Joe. Hoping you take lots of pics to go along with that full report!
The end of the school year is always a mixture of happy and sad! And it sounds like you had a great group of kids who, thanks to you, shared a unique and special experience. You are one AWESOME teacher Sundancer! ;D

Don't worry...hee, hee, hee...I brought my camera and I intend to take LOTS of pictures! Hubby is just hoping that I don't bring home another horse! (I think that's why he came along on this trip!)

It's a good think I didn't have a teacher like you when I was a kid. I never would have moved beyond whatever grade it is you teach! I would have purposely tried to be held back just so I could be with the horse loving teacher! Those kids are so very lucky and you can be sure they will remember you for the rest of their lives.

Well, we had a WONDERFUL visit with Gratefulknits and got to meet all her horses! They are all happy and well-fed! Pippin is a hoot and is Miss Personality! We spent the morning with Joe at TB Friends on Saturday. We got to meet Champ, the horse who was beaten daily by his owner. What a sweetheart! Even after all that abuse, he is just the sweetest thing! I petted him, smoothed out his mane, and he followed me around! Cathy says he is a "pocket pony". Joe says he has a waiting list of people to adopt Champ! He's a pic of Champ: A girl was there trying out one of the tb's. She got to ride him in the round pen and eventually pulled out a wad of bills from her after-school job and purchased him! She was IN LOVE! Joe and Cathy are very friendly and welcoming! I don't know how they keep their 105 horses so happy and content, but they do it! Here's Joe, Quad, and me: It was a good visit and a good day!

You know, we really did have FUN at Joe's. I know one of his visitors said his place was depressing, and she would NEVER return! But, for us, it was a place of hope and looking toward the future. There was a girl trying out a horse that she later adopted that day. Sure, some horses had injuries. But, the horses seemed calm and happy there! They should be! Joe and Cathy spoil them ALL! (tee hee!) And they are just the NICEST people! I'm glad we were able to find his place and visit them while we were up in Northern California. Then, back home to 110 plus HEAT! UGH!
