We live in a very horse friendly area (the housing complex near us is called Equestrian Estates). The fireworks nonsense is giving some of the local 4 legged residents fits. It goes on for weeks after the 4th, seems like the idiots never run out of things that go bang. Last night near dark, someone was out working a couple of horses, ponying one. They got about a mile past our place, and I hear bang-bang-bang-bang.....next thing I see is a streak of gray flash by our place, trailing a rope. Shortly I see the big Appy that was with it earlier, rider still aboard but not in control of the horse, also fly by. Appy got under control a mile or so past our place, and they caught up to the gray, who decided that the wheat field might be a good place to stop for a minute while she decided which way home was. d**n all firework makers! I was glad it wasn't me, and it could have been, people just don't think.

That is scary, glad no horse or rider got hurt. We only had one firework here, and that was by the middle school, which is in tow, so we could see it from our place, but it was far enough away that it didn't bother the horses or dogs. I think after the fires last year, everybody was careful, normally you could see some private fireworks go off, but not this year.

People just don't think. My horses thought it was WWIII.
