No - unfortunately it would be alot harder on their poor little systems to put the chemicals into their bodies to kill off the worms. Plus, expelling that kind of worm load takes a good healthy digestive system As much as I hate the worms, the little one needs moretime to recover before we can hit her systme with that! Sara

I am tired....officially - on the record - TIRED! LOL Having kids is exhausting!
The kids just finished a bottle and are both sleeping. The little girl (who needs to get a name ....) is a slight bit perkier tonight. Fever was down to 101 and we have had 3 more poo's and lots of littel peas. She was pretty hungry for the last 2 bottles and will start to suckle my fingers or my hand if I do'nt get the bottle right to her - This makes me very happy.
Our fireball boy - well - he needs NO encouragement. Geez.... He went from zero and not doing well to off the charts! He is spunky with a capital S! He has a little fit throwing party if he has to wait till second to eat. Will grunt and stomp his feet and throw a general tizzy. Then - when he finally gets the bottle he sucks it down so fast then lets out this weird burp. I changed the nipple to one with a TINY hole to help slow him down a bit. Goofy kid. I am going to wait another 24 hours then go ahead and set up a creep feeder in his stall and start offering him foal lac pellets. I went ahead and started him on a bucket today - but - the pig ate a FULL 2 bottles worth as fast as he could then was knocking the pan around looking for more..... Of course, then he had a lovely little belly ache. So - bottles for him to keep him from being the pig he longs to be.
I figure once they both get settled a little and figureo ut that food is NOT in short supplie, the bad case of the hungries will level to a more normal range.
Well - I am going to get a little sleep before the next feeding.
Night all, Sara
Anyways -

OK - my rent a goat "Maggie" is a GEM - or possibly the sweetiest animal on earth. I opened the stall door this morning to go in with the kids and just put the wide stall guard across as I always do. Well - Maggie decided to come in too - I am not sure of her breed, but she is a bigger, dairy type goat with a BIG utter. Well - it took all of about 2 seconds for Mr. Hungry to spot the food source - he up-rooted her! He kept trying to nurse her - which she allowed - but she is too short for him to properly nurse and his constant nudging finally tipped the poor thing over. What did she do - Lay there, and let him NURSE while making this happy little gruble noise! OMG. So - he got his fill - came over to me to make sure that he was not getting his bottle(ya right!) then laid down for a good sleep lolol. Maggie is a DOLL! I went ahead and milked her and gave a 50/50 bottle to the little girl. Fever is still down this morning but still not as many poos as I would like to see - she only goes about 1/4 of what the little boy does. Ohhh - tyson - reminds me of a VERY bad boxer who raped a gal - I think I am gonna pass on tyson ? Well - that or chicken......lol. John has been calling him Gangis Kon(sp?) lol He will conquer anything with a bottle! Foal lac pellets were a big hit as well - took about 30 seconds to scarf those - thank god I didn't give him but just a small handful to start. I am thinking about seeing if Maggies owner wants to sell her. I swear I would pay most any price - she is an angle in a goats body. So sweet. My current fence is not set up for goats(no mesh), so I went ahead and put my mastiffs harness on her and clipped her to the line run out in the yard - that way she can walk all over the yard, into the barn and almost up to the house(not close enough to eat my roses mind you) I also put one of the dogs dog beds out there for her, which she seemed to like very much to lay and take a nap on. She stays in my last stall at night with the rest of the crew. And - the mares are delayed from coming up at this point till most likely saturday. One of our bulls at the ranch caught a horn on something and ripped it clean off - leaving a pretty icky wound I guess. So - they needed the large trailer to load him up and take him in to get fixed up. luckily he is one of the nicer guys to work with - and considering his breed it is a rarity(belgian Blue - he is bred to our cross herds) So- that is the current update. Little girl still not as perky as I would like, but she is eating and her temp is down. Little boy - over the top - he is hungry hungry hungry! Goat - thrilled to be a mom to ANYTHING! LOL Nap time again for me - they always say - sleep when your baby does in all the new parent books lol! sara in WA

Have you seen shrek. The little boy reminds me of Donkey. If you don't press play on the movie Donkey jumps up and goes ohh pick me pick me. I thought of that. How about Eddie or Murphy. LOL

Yeah, I thought about the equation of the boxer but probably should've offered up "Ali" instead! LOL "Float like a butterfly...sting like a bee"... Genghis K. would be good too for the reasons you mentioned. I'm just glad they are both coming around. ;-) And the angel goat sounds heavenly (pun intended! LOL).

LOL Poor Maggie! I think I would probably choose Ali over Tyson.
For the girl.. We had Cherished Hope our fiesty then sweet Curly Mustang Filly, who lived 1 1/2 years in the wild with a broken and badly healed jaw, and serious damage to her fetlocks. Possibly an injury, but very likely the result of joint ill from an infection as a foal.
We made the hard choice to put her down when we realized that life would only get harder for her as she got older... but it was our decision, it was not that she gave up, she never quit, and refused to show just how challenging her legs made moving.
When we named her we had no idea she was facing those challenges, but after 2 weeks of testing and rejecting names, that's the only name that fit her.

So glad to hear the progress and what a wonderful goat! We did a story in my magazine in the past about a place that used a goat for an orphan foal and they set up a secure straw bale table for her and she would get up on there and the foal would nurse, made it lots easier! The filly went on to be a halter winner in AQHA shows and was successful being ridden also.

The kids are doing good tonight. The little girl seems a little better - still not pooing enough - going to talk to the vet in the morning to discuss it - make sure I am not missing anything. She is now getting fluids only at bottle time since she isn't really drinking much still. Plus, she is still on IV antibiotics. She is slow to pick up, but I do notice little things. Mr. Hungry is still - Hungry - very very hungry. it is actually a bit worrying how starving he is still acting. I am doing bottles every 1.5 hours up from 2 hours. I have also increased the amount he is getting by half. I am supplementing at this point with the foal lac pellets between bottles - just a handful - his little system doesn't need overloaded Both babies are also getting vitamin shots daily at this point as well. Vet will be out in the morning to do a re-check on the kids as well as weight tape them again. I need to get some pictures posted for everyone - But, the little boy doesn't look so gaunt and thin anymore - I can still see his ribs easily and his little hips stick up - but he doesn't look like death walking. Maggie was SERIOUSLY hungry tonight lol. We are feeding her alfalfa/grass mix along with the goat feed she was sent with - but I am thinking it may not be enough for her considering the workout her poor body is getting. She spent the better part of the afternoon and early evening munching blackberries along the fence edge. Any suggestions what to feed this girl?? Horses - dogs- cats - Those I know.....Goats!! LOL Help! I know grains can be bad fed in any volume and Although she LIKES the orchard grass pellets - Not sure that is the best thing for a heavily producing milker like her I am guessing she weighs around 125 pounds?? Just want to make sure she doesn't loose condition trying to feed ol Hungry lol. I was told I should keep baking soda available for her - so have done this. The only new issue - We have a baldfaced hornets nets SOMEWHERE near the barn. I looked all over in the trees but haven't seen it - but have seen TONS in my tack room and flying around the barn - so - am on the search. Poor Kadin got stung on his sheath today - it is swollen and all the skin is pealing. I iced the area and put some ointment on it - it is so tender. Poor guy - he was just starting to perk up - then this happened. Vet can peak at that tomorrow as well..... Well - that is the nightly update. Sara

I feel like a home wrecker! This morning I had to bring in the giant teddy bear out of the little girls stall because she pea'd on it. When I took it out of her stall - she cried and cried and cried....... OMG - made ME cry. I let her back in with her buddy to comfort her till I can get her bear back to her after a good cleaning and a round of scotch guard. I do think it is time for her to get a new mom - She obviously wants the comfort of another being. She is still so weak - I am hoping that it wo'nt be overly stressful to introduce her. The mares will be here on Sunday- I am thinking my older lady will be the better suited for the little girl - she is very quiet and very gentle. I think the little boy MIGHT push her over the edge lol.
Maggie is getting the morning off of duty - she needs a rest after Mr. Hungry! lol. She is lounging in the backyard in a pile of hay at the moment in the sun. she seems very content - and is making a LOT of little goat pellets lol.

Have you tried leaving the goat with her? She wouldn't be as abused as she would with "the bouncer" and the girl would have real company.

The goat sounds so sweet. She should be allowed as much good quality grass/alfalfa hay as she wants and they make a grain/feed for dairy goats most feed stores carry them and there is also a goat block (kinda like a salt block but different) that they love and can have free choice of its black and looks sticky. She can also have any of your veggies & bread as a treat goats love bread, cracker & leaves but only small amouts of the treats. I would make sure that she has been wormed within the last 6 mo. you only worm goats 2x a yr. spring & fall. Other than that they are pretty easy.

Sara, I live near Marysville. If you need any help, please give me a call. I have a pretty good digital camera with charged batteries. Maybe that would help. I would have time on Sunday to assist. Call me 360-658-5525.

HI all - sorry about the pictures. I have now taken them, but need tog et them uploaded(only have dial up - so have to do it at night usually). The vet feels that they are both doing well and are on track at this point. The vet said Mr. hungry can go south to be with the herd as soon as I am ready to send him. He thinks the little girl should hang a little longer before traveling though - both kids will need to be vaccinated and be dewormed - which I want to wait a little to do - the follow up care can be handled by our vet down there. SOOOOOOO - right now - we are thinkingn that if everyone bonds and looks like they are doing good together - that Mr. Hungry and new mom will head back to the ranch mid week - hopefully with the little girl following over the weekend. Not to shabby considering how they came in!!! I had thought about putting maggie in with the little girl - but both kids have now figured out that Maggie is FOOD - and the poor girl needed a break! She does get all the hay and forage materials she wants - I haven't given her any snacks outside of a few carrots since I was not positive what was on the OK list. She gets 1/2 pound of goat feed AM and PM and I did find en one of the goat blocks So - at least I am on track there! I have been a bit overwhelmed but promise to get pics up as soon as possible. Will post a few pictures of the ranch too so you guys can see where the kids are headed to grow up! Both kids are outside this afternoon napping in the shade - I think they were both happy for fresh air Sara

Hi all - sorry for the lack of updates the last few days. Things have been a complete zoo. both babies are doing well - although I am still concerned about the little girl. She is up and around more at this point - but seems kind of off. Both john and I have noticed it and the two guys from the ranch that brought the mares up did as well. I am concerned that there may some neurological problem going on. She has a very slight head tilt and seems to move the legs on the right side of her body a little slower and more forced. The vet thinks it may have to do with the starvation at such an early age - but thought that in time she may turn around. It hasn't been that long with her actually getting the nutrition she needs - so I am hoping that the vet is right. She is very sweet and is actually curious about things and wants to interact with life again. She is still sleeping alot more than the average baby, but considering where she started I would say she is about 30-40% improved.
Our little man is doing well - he is acting like a healthy, happy guy with alot of spunk. He makes a play thing out of EVER"YTHING. I got a very sweet shot of him standing in the 70 gallon water trough yesterday - all 4 feet - splashing and stomping - unfortunately it was not on a digital camera - but rather a sill disposable(was cleaning out the boat when I saw him!) He has no fear of anything. Over the weekend, him and his new mom got turned out in oneo f my big side pastures to get to know eachother without interuptions. Well - my big guy Kadin had to check things out so went over to the fence line and puffed all up - head up - allert- snorting a tad - What did the little man do - Prance right over to the fence and get right in his face lol. Puffed all up like he was king of the world. was pretty funny - here is the little guy - all ribs and neck - looking up at a 19.2 hand 2600 pound percheron going "Ya- bring it on buddy!" lol Luckily kadin is a good natured guy - it was kind of like you could see kadin laughing at him.
Mom's and babies are settling in together well together. The older mare is being very nurturing to the little filly. she mothers her like she is her own. The only issue is that she is only starting to come into milk slightly - so we are still giving lots of bottles - which is fine. If her milk does not pick up, the pair will stay up here so I can take care of her. Our silly boy is driving his new mom bonkers. But - she tolerates his antics and within 12 hours of being here started coming into milk, and by this morning she now looks like SHE gave birth. Her new son is not sure he needs a mom - but it is obvious come meal time or if he gets sleepy he goes right to her. Initially, when they met - he was not so sure about her, but she was instantly in love. She licked and loved on him to the point i think his skin must be raw lol. He looked like we hosed him down. I think they need a little more time to get bonded before going out to the big herd - i think our little guys loyalties would be to the closest meal at this point. So - the decision was made that they should stay here for a bit to get to know eachother better.
One of our ranch guys has family in wenatchee - so I made arrangements so that they could have a a week or so to go over and visit. on the way back, they will come back here - if all is well, moms and babies will go south. If not, we will re-evaluate at that point.
So - that is the update - I have been seriously busy with the kids - Our angel goat is also doing great. I am thankful she has been here to "nanny" the kids!

I hadn't had a chance to upload all the photos from my camera - but our ranch manager sent me a few shots of the ranch that we took last time we were down there - I figured I would post so you guys know where these kids are headed This is the big mare pasture. It is 120 acres and at the far end has a stream. On the other end we have a large covered area that is used for hay storage in the summer - then in the winter, the sides are put back on and a round bale is droopped in the center so that the kids can come in out of the weather for dinner.
