JULY 12
Four short months ago a herd of starving horses entered the gates of Keno Hills and our hearts. The dream of rehabilitating them was kindled within three women, Susan Fyfe, Donna-Rae Coatta and Pat Galloway. Their bold and hopeful move to take on this herd inspired more than 500 people to directly volunteer and literally thousands more to step forward to offer support. All involved anticipated a long journey toward recovery that would be fraught with several challenges. No one could have guessed that this herd would respond so quickly to the basics of care and the abundance of love.
On Saturday, July 5th, we placed the last two horses remaining in the FIRST Rescue 100 herd. After a tender and tear-filled goodbye, the pair of geldings boarded the trailer to their new home in the most peaceful fashion. As the trailer pulled away, it was a surreal to stare out to the empty field that so recently was filled with so many horses that needed us.
It was not only the horses that have benefited. We needed them too. Each one of the horses touched us, healed us and inspired us. They have demonstrated forgiveness, acceptance, love of life, hope, courage, peace, strength and beauty. It is a tribute to this herd that Rescue 100 Horses Foundation continues.
There are a handful of rescued horses that remain, but they are placed with their new owners who have chosen to board their horses until they are ready to be moved. As for the horses that have gone to their new homes, we feel strongly that we have done our best to ensure that they have gone to people who will love them, care for their every need, and offer a ‘forever home’.
Congratulations to everyone who contributed time, effort, money, hopes and dreams to the rehabilitation of the first Rescue 100 Horses Foundation herd!
We now step into a future with a clear mission and vision.
