My friends dad wanted to get his grand daughters some ponies. So what does he do? He goes out and buys 2 BLM Yearling Fillies. He has no clue about horses, does not ride, does not know how to train them, and his grand daughters are 5 and 8, neither of them ever had a horse. The reason he bought the BLM Mustangs? They were cheap. Now he's looking at $600.00 a month training, which he can't afford. He's had them since last fall, and besides having the vet out, he hasn't done anything with them. I know the BLM is desperate to find homes for their Mustangs, but why do they let totally NON-HORSEY people adopt a wild Mustang? They don't know how much time and money is involved in training a horse, especially if you don't know how to do it yourself. It is really frustrating to see and hear things like this. Is there a way to educate people, the BLM? If these horses (or any horse for that matter) isn't trained right, and hurts a little kid, the horse gets blamed and then dumped. And green horses usually do not have a very good future from what I can tell. What do you guys think?
