We didn't even go to the auction.. but Jessica and her mom did. (Jessica is a sweet upper teen whom ended up with Kerrie's Valley)
Jessica and mom went to the local livestock auction It is usually goats/sheep and chickens that are sold there, but there were two horses that came through no one bought.
One was an elderly, lame, very thin black mare, the other a not as old, not as thin gray mare. Thats all I knew when Angi called to say "hook up the trailer" and that Beth wanted to go get them. :sigh: I still have a horse stuck in WA and the 2 yearlings!
So I hooked up the trailer and when they arrived off we went to the sale yard. Luckily someone else took the old mare (I did not see her, but everyone who did felt she just needed to be given some love and then laid to rest) Jessica kept telling Angi when you see this mare you will understand.
So we arrive and paid Jessica back the $10 she paid to cover her pass thru fee, and found a nice mare, she's very mellow, and kind. Not dingy or flighty very calm and levelheaded BUT....
Her eyes are HORRIBLE!! We tried calling Doc while we had her in the trailer hoping maybe he was out and about so we could meet him to look at her but couldn't reach him.
We don't think it is a tumor or anything life threatening in fact are hoping it is just a really bad case of pink eye, though I have never seen it this bad before.
She still blinks her eyes and doesn't act like she's in pain but I remember pink eye as being very painful? She had a bit of yellow snot in one nostril so we started her on antibiotics and Terramyicin figuring neither should hurt her before she can see the vet, but I wondered if anyone else had any suggestions.
We did discuss that it could have been aggravated by a windy trailer ride, or allergies but didn't think either were the root cause.
Oh and the wind picked up her mane and I spotted this as Angi was leading her out of the pen.
She is VERY well mannered! She led, loaded, tied, and even trotted perfectly by Angi's side. She had no reaction to Jessica laying across her so we are pretty sure she is broke, (probably very well) and already have 2 or 3 people we think she would be great for if it's true.
By her teeth we are thinking she is about 11? But we will see what the vet says.
Angi wants to name her Zapora
