Went to the auction with Tash today. We went back to see all of the horses and came upon a little white arab standing with a saddle on. I looked at his butt and saw his spine sticking out...and showed him to Tash. He was really thin and couldn't believe he was going to be ridden through. The owner was trying to hide just how thin he was with the saddle. After a bit we headed in and sat down and bought a bit of tack...LOL I love those surprize boxes. After 3:00pm the horses started in.....and I couldn't get that little gelding out of my mind. When he was ridden in I bid on him and bought him for $50.00. I knew he wasn't going to go to kill and the owner said he wasn't going home and laughed about it....which irritated me a bit. It was her fault he was in the shape he was in. Tash is going to help me rehab him and he will stay out in her pastures. When we loaded him up he jumped right in the trailer and basically wanted to get the hell out of dodge. When we got to the pasture we put a blanket on him and put him in a small paddock and he dove right for the grass and completely ignored the hay. I don't think he has had grass for a long time. His name is Casper...and by next Spring I think your going to see a totally different horse Check out the pics Casper when we first saw him He is mine...but so thin Teeth Casper and Jackie

Thank you so much for saving him, I was there yesterday also and it just royally pissed me off to see him saddled in that condition. I saw the girl that was posting his description and it was all I could do to not slap some sense into her. Hey did that cute little sorrel filly get saved? She was about a year old, sweetest personality ever. Hope she did

Did you by any chance catch the woman's first name or the particular club on her jacket?

I didnt notice her club name on her jacket, frankly I was too pissed to concentrate at the time. My husband had to practically drag me away from her. Im really glad sweet Casper has a good home now. Hey did the little starving paint with the sores all over his back go to the kill buyer? That was truly a sad sight.

We would very much like to know where this boy came from as we think it is likely he has been passed around a bit. He has a mostly white/pink nose and he has a big mole on the left side of his nose.

He looks familiar to me...I'm wondering if I have seen a CL ad for him recently. His teeth are terrible, poor guy...he's gonna have to have some old man mush....good job Jackie & Tash..I'm sure he will look completely different by spring.

He is CUTE!! No wonder he jumped in your trailer! I bet 6 months will make a world of difference. Poor boy- I wonder how he can nip grass with those front teeth- he probably 'tongues' it! A little dental work will help too. Great save.
BTW- how's Katey- one of my all-time faves!!

He doesn't have any trouble whatsoever to eat grass or hay.... the gal must just have not been giving him anything at all.

Don't you just love it when someone can see past the physical condition and into the heart and soul of an animal? Casper knowns who he is and he's pretty special. He was certainly alert and shows great intelligence. He was thinking things through. I'll bet he was really ready to get out of there. . .fast! Thanks for taking him on. I bet you won't be sorry.

When I heard that idiot (previous owner) laugh after Ron told her to take him home and feed him and then say she wasn't taking him home while she rode him in the ring...I knew he was in trouble and we just had to get him out of there!

People like that are going to pay for their selfishness and stupidity in the next life. There are no free passes.
Looks like it's love at first sight as far as CAspar is concerned....good job ladies!

Here is a pic of me and Casper on Sunday. Good pic of him...bad of me...LOL Tash and I went out to see him after the snow cleared and I could get out. It was so dang cold out there but he was a happy boy...and wanted to be a pocket pony trying to get to the treats. He's a bit pushy when he wants something...but has a great disposition. I can't wait for the weather to get better and for him to gain some weight.

Cute boy. Those teeth look like a cribber, maybe? Might have an ulcer, easy to check. Best of luck, look forward to the progress photos.

He hasn't shown any signs of being a cribber since he came here... I think he was just so starved that he was trying to eat anything and probably broke his teeth on rocks or something.

Obviously a dental is in order for this kid - but you might want to have an actual dental specialist rather than a regular vet check him out. He MIGHT need pegs in his front to graze normally. He is so cute though Absolutely adorable. Reminds me of an elderly arab that was at a facility I boarded at a long time ago - he was a total ham bone - and so sweet! Sara

Sophie has teeth like that as well. Vet thought it was from eating grass in a really rocky or sandy lot. The sand wears the teeth down like sandpaper. I have Sophie on two scoops of LMF senior twice a day and she gets whatever she can glean from the pasture and what my other horses leave. She hadn't ever had dental care from the looks of her teeth and had to have a couple of extractions. She really doesn't have much left of teeth in her mouth but manages to eat the senior just fine. She is what my vet calls an easy keeper. Stays FAT on 4 scoops a day. You will have this guy fattened up soon! Vicki

Casper is doing fine. He is bundled up under two blankets and getting all-he-can-eat alfalfa.

We'hve got a few that have no front teeth too, and they eat pellets just fine... our 40+ year old pony is FAT FAT FAT on pelleted feed, he has no front top teeth, and his rears are all cupped below the gum line... :-) no problem gumming pellets! Alfalfa works pretty good, cause they can eat the leaves then leave the stems... I'd add something pelleted and higher in fiber for him as he gains tho... so he doesn't get calcium stones or enteroliths...
