Tash and I were out to see Casper today. It was so nice to have the sun out for a change and warm enough not to have to wear a coat. It's been approx a month and a half since we rescued him from the enumclaw auction and I am proud to say he is doing well and gaining weight. We have been making sure he gets a mash everyday that includes 3 glasses alfalfa pellets, 1 glass rice bran, scoop probios, scoop horse guard, pinch of grow strong minerals, and all the hay he can eat. He has been wormed with pancur and had his feet trimmed. He will be wormed again with Safeguard next week. He has gained about 100 pounds. He will get his teeth done when he has gain more weight, which will probably be a month or two. He really is a nice guy and it's been really nice to watch him improve. I was a little worried about him when we had all the snow but he did great with his two blankets. In fact he is very good at stealing hay from the other horses. Here are a few pictures of him today.

He's still skinny, but he is getting better. He is full of personality and I think he is going to be a pretty darn good horse in a couple months.

Combining threads....How is Casper (bought at the Enumclaw auction in Dec. 08) doing? I think about this fella alot, and how awful his old owners were to him. I know he ended up in a good home, but I was hoping for updated pictures of this guy. Casper had a general vet check on 2-20-09 and had his teeth done, shots, sheath cleaned and a general over all check. The vet aged him to be about 20 which is close to the 18 Tash and I were told. We had the vet check out some bumps we found on him and she confirmed that they were melanomias. Grey horses have a tendency to get them. She told us to not remove them as they have a tendancy to mulitply after removal. I told her I had been doing some reading about the success of using generic tagamet (cimetidine) as a treatment for melanomias. She agreed that it has been successful and helped us get the Cimetidine. He gets 900 mg a day in his mash. I have talked to others about this treatment and they have also confirmed that it works in getting rid of or decreasing the size. I will let you know how it goes as the treatment proceeds. Over all Casper is doing very well. He has a great attitude and loves to get dirty. I swear he does it on purpose just to drive me crazy...LOL He needs to gain about another 100 lbs. I have been doing a litte lunging with him to help get his muscles built back up, but it's difficult with the grass being so slippery, so we also have been going for walks. Casper getting his teeth done OMG, what a beautiful boy! Give him a big hug for me, Im glad that he is doing so well. Casper looks awesome, thanks so much for the update

Wow, Jackie, look at all the pretty ponies you are surrounded by. A horse of every color I was surrounded...LOL ;D I had just finished giving Casper the contents of the bucket and the three of them wanted in on the deal. I love walking out in a field of horses like that....there is something so pieceful about it. All of those horses are wonderful.

Photos from yesterday... Casper has decided that he no longer wants to wear a blanket. Note in the second photo the shape of a crumpled and pulled off blanket lying in the pasture.

New pics of Casper taken on 6-5-09. He has a new addition to the herd and is busy playing top dog of the herd and trying to keep Archer ( Tashs new horse) away from the mares. If any of you are planning on attending the campout at Tired Dog Ranch in OR on July 8th -12th you be able to see Casper and say hi.

WOW!! All of those photos are gorgeous but I can't believe that the horse in the first photo is the same horse you rescued at the auction! That is just amazing. You've done such a wonderful job bringing him back to radiant health and beauty. Thanks for sharing this update on Casper!
