| Not much is known about Fresca at this time. She was sold through the Chehalis auction for $175 and was ridden through the auction. Folks that were there say that she rode through beautifully, but that horses were going for nothing. She was purchased by a kill buyer and was set to go straight to slaughter after a trip to the Enumclaw auction to fill up the load. At the Enumclaw sale she was not run through the auction. Instead she sat in the back in a pen with about 20 other horses who were just waiting for a full load to go to slaughter. A friend and I each purchased one horse (Fresca was $275) from this pen... all the others shipped tonight.
From all appearances Fresca is approximately 8-10 years old. She is a pure white Appy mare with tons and tons of small black spots. She does not have a standard Appy build, but rather a more... Saddlebred... type build. She has shoes on and rode out very very nicely when she was test ridden at the auction. She is currently in heat, so pregnancy is probably not a factor. She appears to be sound and healthy aside from assorted cuts, scrapes, and bumps from being hauled around and kept in the kill pen.
She will be available for adoption shortly.

She was very nervous at the auction (who can blame her after two long trailer rides cramped with other slaughter bound horses) As soon as Amber got on her it was all about going to work! This is one nice mare!

This mare is likely an Akhal-Teke Appaloosa cross! Gorgeous!! Why do you say Akhal-Teke? (Not arguing, just wondering what makes you pick that breed since I thought they were pretty rare... although I do understand that there are some in this area)

there is a breeding program in Lapwai ID that is crossing appys with Akhal-Teke stallions. THey do offer horses for sale there and they also might stand the studs to outside mares. Lapwai is about 15-20 miles from Lewiston ID. It might be a place to start the search.

Thank God for you, Tasha. That's all I can say. You found this gem in the trash, and you're bringing her out for the world to see. Thank you so much for saving this beautiful girl's life, and giving her a chance.

Ha no gates can keep us out of restricted areas!!!! Having to pick and choose a life is rough but this girl sure appreciated it. Saying goodbye to the others was pretty rough though.

She could still be pregnant. Some mares still come into heat every month, sometimes a raging heat, despite being pregnant She is a gorgeous mare. Thank you so much for saving her!! My heart breaks for those that were shipped ........

The deal with the crossing is this.....Appys weren't doing well in the Western show rings due to their natural shuffle gaits, so folks were breeding it OUT of them by crossing with QHs!! To get it back in the blood, Nez Perce breeders affiliated with the Tribes started purchasing Akhal-Teke studs to put the shuffle back in their Appys.

Did you check for lip tatoos on her? Some of the Appy breeders are tatooing the new horse to track them...

LOL! OK! Well, Fresca came home today and she is very nice. Apparently she did not trailer well and so I was expecting her to be rather hyper, but she was not. She came out of the trailer, went into my pen and settled right in. After some moving around of the other horses, she was let loose in my 10 acre pasture all to herself. She shares a fence line with my other horses, but for the moment she is separated from them because she still has shoes on and I don't want to risk her kicking anyone - especially the baby. She has 3 shoes on, not four, which I find strange - but then I tend to hate shoes all the time. Also, she apparently got stung by something because she has a big swollen area on the side of her neck. She has very sensitive skin because she is a true white (as in pink skin) rather then the gray horses that are often called white. I am probably going to need to put sunblock or some sort of sun protection on her. But she is a doll and very sweet.

Yes, that high head carriage just screams "Akhal-Teke". Wouldn't it be great if you could track her breeding down.

He's pretty pleased with the new addition We didn't get home until really late last night and Danae was SO excited to see her new horse she ran down first thing this morning in her jammies!
