Put out the word on CL, also contact the large Breeding farms, they are most likely to have a mare that lost a foal simply because they have a large number of broodmares. Contact vets that work with a large horse population, they know of any losses within their clients, etc.

we have a mare with a five mo old foal, but we are too far away...
we'd have been glad to wean her now...
