Dean, are you referring to the seizure taking place next week in Burns? If so, this is the information I have been given. Anyone who can help, please do. Also, I have three photos, but I cannot post them from dial-up. I can forward the photos to anyone who is willing to post them. Just let me know if you will post photos, and I will forward them to you. Thank you.
INFORMATION:
Thursday, 3/26/09
Hi Amy Jo,
The seizure got put on hold again at the very last second, as the women who was charged was caught today with a large truck and trailer trying to load horses, so they arrested her and took her away but she is probably out by now or will be by morning.
There are approx (sheriff can't seem to count up there) 50 to 70 animals horses and cows.
All breeds of horses, from Arabs and crosses to part draft, even two mules, but they seem to be a bit on the wild side. Also stallions and pregnant mares.
So they will be held at a ranch up there for 7 to 14 days until the judge gets all the new paperwork done. Then he said they all need to go, which I will believe when I see it.
Red tape paper work always seems to take forever.
So if you can think of someone who might want to recover a hungry horse let me know.
Sandy

If you have any ideas for these horses let me know, there are over 40 and all breeds and pregnant mares.
Thanks Sandy

The seizure of the Burns horses has been postponed until next week. We are still desperate for foster homes. I have attached a couple of pictures to show what challenges lie ahead. The horses are being fed and cared for by the Humane Society at this time but actual movement will not take place until next week. Transportation is available for those willing to foster. Please forward this to anyone you may think can help. You can contact Sandy at 541-554-0196 or email her at eveahr@earthlink.net for more information or to make arrangements to foster. Thank You Again, Barbara

Beth, it is even worse than that. (See message below from Sandy.) We had an amazing offer come in from one of our own horse angels here, donating 80 acres for this rescue effort. However, we would need armed guards as well, it seems. See below.
Hi Amy Jo,
They have gotten the horses moved off the owners property and to a near by ranch for sorting and being looked at by a vet. After the judge signs some more paperwork we can go start getting them and taking them to new homes and foster home, but they do want them out of Burns of possible as the women was caught on Wednesday trying to steal them to take to the slaughter plant in Mexico, she already got one load down there about a week ago, but this time she got caught and arrested by the sheriff as she had already been formally charged.
So even though the 80 acres sounds nice, someone would have to stand guard there, this lady is nuts.
Sandy

Let me know if I can help. We're on a dead end road, only one way in and one way out and very remote. Not to mention fully armed. ;D

Can someone PM me the name of this woman that did this? I am trying to find out if a person I know here sold or leased her a horse in the last couple years. Thanks.

There is grass if the pasture has water or improved pastures, but the feed unit run's over 45 acres per animal pair (cow/calf) on the average ground in Central Oregon. I don’t know how many horses the lady had, she just didn’t feed them to be in that condition. Looking at the ground she had them on .. there was nothing to eat.
It's sad to see these poor horses in the condition their in.. hopefully they will find good homes or foster homes and have a soft spot to land in... This past year with high hay prices, and the economy in the toilet it's common to see horses in this condition if you look for it.

Most recent request from Sandy:
Hey Amy Jo, Are you in contact or connection with any horse trainers who might be willing to take on a horse who needs training then find it a home? Either one of the seizure horses or a horse from a rescue? Thanks Sandy
I just had a horrible thought. You don't think kill buyers and/or those associated with kill buyers who might just frequent this board (or have their mignons frequenting this board) would pose as trainers or adopters to get a hold of these horses and take them to slaughter?
Another, most uplifting thought: Anyone in western Oregon (or elsewhere) who saw the newspaper article regarding free hay for rescues and sanctuaries, if you have the pertinent information regarding the availability of this hay, please let me know, post it here, or contact Sandy. There is no reason this should be costing the sheriff's department if there is as much hay available as the article implied. Thank you.

The news is now reporting that there was 60+ DEAD horses and 20 or 30 dead cows on the property! The adoptive homes and foster homes will probably have to come from out of the area because Burns unemployment rate is over 20%.........so probably not alot of people with the ability to take on a starved horse with special needs. I'm sure some of them will come to Bend as we have several volunteers here that are trying to line up homes.........Burns is 2 hours from Bend - and it's a flat easy drive.
The rescues over here are all filled to overflowing............
