on my way to work this morning, there is a cop car with flashing light holding us back. When we finally were allowed to go through, we passed a dead horse on the road, it was in the middle of the road. Not sure if it got hit, or what happened. Didn't see a car. I know there is a small paddock on the other side of the street that has 2 horses in there, not sure if they got out.
It was just sad, Just wanted to turn around and go home to hug mine.

Ohhh, how horrible. I cannot imagine losing a horse to a traffic accident. The owners must be devastated. Makes me want to stop what I'm doing and hug my horses too. Hope your day gets better.

I can relate, last weekend I had the same experience, on my way to work, drove right by it, maybe 1500 feet from the traffic light on the edge of town,(Livermore) they had to have been driving pretty fast, as there were intestines exposed. It was on the news, 2 people were hospitalized. Turns out the accident was at 1 am but I drove by it at 6pm. It took them all day to pick up the horse!! There are horses stabled right by the road.... and the first pen is now empty, not sure if it was their horse or if they moved it after the accident.

Awe Corrinne, I'm so sorry..... Go hug your babies.
Was going to mention the one that Belinda just did. I'm thinking that horse may have spooked through her fences because of the military maneuvers over the tri-valley last Friday night that lasted until 1:30 a.m. They were only 500 feet over our barn, blacked out. I could see a horse JUMPING a fence to get away from that....
I haven't driven by that little ranch because I don't want to realize which horse is missing....

Not sure what happened, but it is the black horse that was in the little pasture right next to the street. My BF said they mentioned that somebody got hurt in an accident involving an animal that morning, but didn't say it was a horse. Never heard anything else about it. They only had the white electric band fencing. I always thought that was not enough to keep a horse out, especially this close to a major road.

Yeah...there are a lot of horses that are in with that type of fencing. One whole pasture by my barn had barb wire...now the tape. And that road is crazy busy all the time with commuters and the idiot weekend speedsters. If a horse wants through it bad enough, it'll get through.

I drive by this place all the time, and every time i did, i would look in to see if the horses were still in there and the other day noticed that the beautiful black one was gone, didnt think anything of it till my husband came home and told me about the accident! Every time i drove by i was waiting for it! Its right next to a highway, and only electric tape.

The corral that is closest to the accident area (Livermore) has proper fence panels and even partial cyclone fence, but now that pen has sheep in it...... not sure whats up there

I like electric fencing, but I think if I had a property by the road, I'd put a solid fence along THAT edge, and do the interior fencing with electric. This brought bad memories of when I was young, going to Pony Club..........I was to meet a friend at a Drag Hunt- my first one- SO excited. My friend never arrived. I found out, she walked her horse to the beach to lunge early in the morning.......when he got down to roll, he got the line tangled in his feet, got up, panicked, and took off for home. He was killed when he crossed the road.
