This whole "don't contact past owners" got me thinking, and I really would love to find out more about Merlin's background. He is such a stunning horse, and I would like to know what his breeding is, where he came from, etc. If he could be registered to show. I have absolutely no information on him, other than he came from a QH farm in WA. And that's it. Does anybody have any ideas where to start? Do I send a picture of him to every breeder in WA, and hope one of them is it? Would his PS have any idea (doubt it actually)? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Contact the AQHA. They probably have a DNA program and may be able to provide information about his bloodlines if you send them a DNA sample. THey won't be able to identify the horse, but could probably figure out his lines.

Who was the PS? Heidi did a lot of the assessments and PS for the QHs and I think she kept the files on a lot of her horses. Maybe she can look him up? She said she would try to dig something up on Manny for me. (oh, Heidi!

I think Merlin's PS was Vicki, I wanna say it was Heidi that told me he was from a QH farm up there, but I can't find the email anymore. And that was all the info she gave m.
Thanks Stormlady, I sent the AQHA an email.

Well, AQHA can only help if you have the dam's name or the register #, don't have either

He was on the lot August/September of '06. His lot name was Randel, he was advertised as a QH Type colt 2 years old.
Thank you so much for trying.

No guarantees but I'll see what I can dig up for ya! I live in WA and know a ton of breeders so if I can get close to that we might have some luck!

OK luvmypaints I have a question for you, maybe you can help me too.
My QH gelding was a CBER rescue from 2/06, he was on a ranch not the lot. When I had him moved to CA he still had his winter coat on. So spring came & low & behold he has a brand on his left shoulder.
The vet that did his health certs missed it as did I.
So if I post a photo of his brand would you mind passing it around?
It looks like ET or FT the bottom line on E connects to T, however the middle line on E is like that of F it is shorter, also T does not connect with E or F at the top & it is not as tall but it looks like a capital T.
The total size is about 4 to 5 inches square.
One more thing it is a fine or thin wire brand, not wide or thick at all.
Sorry I don't know my branding terms, any input would be great!
Thanks.

Hi swiss, I have sent out the feelers on Merlin so we'll see what it gets us! and maverick I'd love to help ya! do you know what state your gelding originated from? go ahead and send me a pic of the brand and I'll ask my uncle if he recognizes it,( he was WA state brand inspector for over 20 yrs here in WA before he retired), and I can also search livestock data bases for the brand! I like searching for the "unknown" LOL, so I'll see if I can help you gals out!

Thank you so much luvmypaints!
He was in WA when I adopted him but he could have been bred else where, I don't have that info on him.
I'll post the photos on this thread.

You guys got me going now too. I have searched the internet looking for information on Liz's brand with no answers. She has a capitol MD (connected at the bottom) on her left hip. Sam told me she knew the thoroughbred ranch she came from somewhere in central Washington and had even contacted them but they gave her no info- don't know now if I believe that She is tatooed but it is unreadable. Since Liz gave birth to what appears to me to be a purebred foal soon after I got her- I really hoped to track down a recorded breeding. It could make a big difference in the foals future. Anyways, if anyone has any info or ideas for me- I'd appreciate it.

Patrol Horse! I know that brand... my mom's horse (CBER horse) has that same brand. I've looked for it in the WA Brand Book and was unable to find it. My mom's horse is a BS Paint and someone sure didn't treat her right.

Have you tried reading it with a black light? Since the Jockey Club is now providing free information, you may be able to get some assistance.
