so........had the house inspection on the acreage today. The realtor told my hubby that the present owners would like to give their jet black pony/mini ?? to my kids. The pony is super duper cute. My daughter is so excited. I need so many good vibes that we can get this place. An acreage that comes with a pony, how sweet is that.

okay, we are almost there, my mums house sold, so that was the remaining condition to be removed to buy this property. I think it's a done deal. so..........chickens first, and a goat or two. Going to give the land a full summer to recover from the horses that are there right now. my my, I can't believe it's finally happening, it only took 35 years.......but who's counting?

there is always hope, haha.
I am imagining a whole lot of things. but first things first. PACKING. I hate packing, unpacking, sorting, moving, ugh. dreading that part. But, I should be a pro by now, I've done it enough times.

I am on Vancouver Island, right smack between Nanaimo and Victoria.
We will keep the pony if they keep the offer. Oh, and it's black and white, not sure how I missed the whole white body, I guess his black head and BIG black mane and forelock blocked me seeing the white, haha, DUH.
where are you tate?

thanks!!!!!!!!
I am super excited. Let the animals roll in , haha. Considering I am now going to be 2 minutes exactly, away from the SPCA, shouldn't have a hard time finding animals to love on.
I also chatted with a horse guy today, he works for a rescue here on the island. They are getting 9 horses shipped out, (for free) from Alberta, all are emaciated and with very long hooves. 3 had to be euthanized, sad. I am hoping to go have a look at them, they are hoping to get them all adopted out to new loving homes. I will hopefully be getting some pics of them tonite. So, now that I have some land, I can do what I have been wanting to do for so long.

YAY. chickens and ducks first. any chicken experts out there. best and funnest breeds? looking for egg layers and some to let have a few babies, daughter wants to see some hatch. Thinking bantams for the mama and papa Just one to have babies, don't want to many. We have poultry swaps here every June. Should be fun, and great family time too.

Ah, one of my favorite websites: feathersite.com/Poultry/BRKPoultryPage.htmlI would recommend raising the first batch from chicks. I have 2 hens and a rooster that were raised by hand with lots of handling and human interaction and they are a riot. They come running when we drive up, eat out of your hand, let you pick them up, etc. My rooster was even raised in a petting zoo. The three hens that were wild raised are really standoffish and not really engaging (they don't even have names).

Woo Hoo emjay! Six days and counting! I have to give my 2 cents on chickens. Love em! If you want nice sized but way cool eggs, get an Aracauna. They lay the green ones. When kids come over I always tell them that we have Green Eggs and Ham at our house! I also love little Silky Banties. They have great personalities. My little girl would eat out of your hand and let the kids pet her. Silkies come in assorted colors, blonde, white, speckled, mine was black. They have really foofy hair on their head. Google them! My Silky was also a good mom and would sit on EVERYONE's eggs. MTA: Agree w/BB on getting chicks if you can.
