I belong to several forums, one being in Canada (western Canada, specifically British Columbia)
I happened to read this thread today, so very sad, I hate people (well, except for all of you)

I have a friend who works at the track in Edmonton and she said that there are 15 that went to the canner that she knows of cause they were either injured or aren't cutting it at the track. Not surprising!!!!
Most people are giving them away or asking very little. I know of someone who got one 2 weeks ago for $ 150 just because he slipped on the cement and cut his hock. He's healing very nicely and loving his new life in the paddock. She's gonna give him another 2 weeks and start lunging him and train him for western, then rehome him.
If anyone is interested in a project, let me know and I will get info for you.
WARNING: Unfortunately, decisions would have to be made quickly as once they let her know they want them gone, she has to move them quick as the meat truck comes once a week or they put them down and the rendering truck comes the next day.....most are in the free to good home or $ 300
