I recently got an email which looked very authentic, but it was a phishing scam. It was titled "Your Account Has Been Limited" or something to that effect. It said some third party had tried to use my PayPal account and they needed to have me log in and verify everything was ok. Blah, blah, blah. It just did not sound right. I copied it and forwarded it to the real PayPal. They said it was indeed a scam and thanked me for sending it to them as it helps them control fraud.
If you have gotten anything like this, please send it to spoof@paypal.com They will check it out and let you know if it an attempt to defraud you. If you get one of these, do not use the links in the email to log in to PayPal. Remember, it looked just like an offical PayPal email, they even used their logo and everything.

Was the email you got addressed to you specifically? By first and last name? Paypal says that ALL communications form them are addressed to Dear Donna Toepper ie.
I got a fake last year that looked like a receipt from a large purchase off of ebay that I never made and when you clicked on the link it had you log on with you user name and password
