SAVE THE HORSES – TOMORROW (Warm Springs) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reply to: sale-deaj7-1230323986@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?] Date: 2009-06-19, 5:43PM PDT At noon tomorrow, the Warm Springs Indian reservation is auctioning off many of their horses. Pregnant mares, mares with foals at their side and stallions. There will be bidders there from Canada buying these horses for slaughter in their country. Mares and foals will be separated as the mares are put in the trailers, leaving very young foals behind. Please let every horse lover know what is happening and if you are able to take in any of these beautiful horses, please attend. The prices will be very low and saving the life of any horse is priceless regardless. Please make every effort to come out and make a difference. The auction will be held at the rodeo grounds, approximately 2-3 miles off the main highway headed towards the casino. Location: Warm Springs salem.craigslist.org/grd/1230323986.html

From Darla Clark, Strawberry Mountain Mustangs Inc.:
Meet the newest arrivals @ Strawberry Mountain Mustangs.
These precious babies were saved in a joint effort with HSUS, Emerald Valley Equine Assistance and Strawberry Mountain. These tiny foals came from a reservation auction in Central Oregon. Their world was turned upside down when, despite their young age, they were yanked from their mothers' sides and ran through a small sale ring in the middle of the high desert. Fortunately, we were there.
Aside from a very few local buyers, most of the horses, including all of the herd stallions and most of the mares and even yearlings went for meat. Our hearts broke watching these tiny foals call for their mothers for hours. By the time the sale was over and we could load and leave - these babies had gone without fluids for hours. They were dehydrated, hungry and terrified. Their introduction to human contact was being tackled by 5 or 6 reservation children. The ride home was long, almost 6 hours, with us stopping several times to encourage them to drink and let them rest. All are doing well today.
These precious little ones are safe, as are two yearlings who currently reside at the HSUS Duchess facility near us. Those two horses will come to Strawberry Mountain later this week.
If you can help, please consider a donation today. We need your help to continue the work we do.

I don't have any new information, but I will see Darla Thursday or Friday and will get more information then. I have photos, but can no longer load them into Photobucket out here in Timbuktu. If anyone who I sent the e-mail to can post the photos, please post away. The babies are precious and darling and have already been to hell and back. Thank God they are with Darla.

Warm springs horses are some of the finest I have owned. I have 2 a 2yr old filly and a 2yr old gelding I got them at 3 and 5 weeks old when their mamas were shipped after the wild horse race at Toppenish. They are so gentle and easy to handle and built like little bricks. Both of ours are smart and willing they are a little small being only about 13h but are nice and stocky. I cannot find enough nice things to say about them they have just been a joy to be around. If anyone is thinking of adopting one I can honestly say you will never regret it. Did I mention they are absolutely beautiful? My gelding Shadow is a blue roan pinto and the filly Fire is a bright copper sorrel.

I so wish I could still work with my horses. I would love to take on one of these babies. No longer to be. I'll have to help in other ways. They are so beautiful. I'll send some $$ to the rescue. My last baby is in training. If anyone wants to see my a--rab....http://fhotd64476.yuku.com/topic/28288 Dodger is the youngest of our horses. I'm hoping to be able to keep him until he dies of old age, but we will see. Failing health issues...Crap I hate getting older!
