So, today, finally, I got to spend some time with my girls. It was nice and warm and they were nice and dirty so we had a spa day. Their faces and legs are covered in blackish sticky stuff which I assume is some kind of tar weed. So, I got Kaleigh nice and clean. Then, in the time it took to clean Angel, Kaleigh got it all over her face again. I was wondering if any of those silicon-ish, showsheen-ish things would work to keep it sticking. Any thoughts? Any brands you prefer? Any brands to stay away from? Thanks!

I hate this stuff. It turns my sorrel into a bay. I use Cowboy Magic liberally on the main/tail/forelock and it helps. But as a full body deterrent, not sure.

Thank you Jen!
I like the idea of Dawn. We use that on tiny kittens. If it's mild enough for them, it's not going to hurt the horses. I'll let y'all know how it works. It's probably faster than what I did - stand there for 2 hours gently rubbing her with wet washcloths. She loved it though!
I'm wondering about using Show Sheen (or something like it?) to repel the tarweed. I've not used it since I've never shown, but I read that some say it is drying. So...anyone have an opinion about that?

We always use Dawn soap. Nothing keeps it off. When I was a teeager I use to do drill team and our horses had to be spot less. My mare had four white socks and a big blaze. It would take hours to get her clean for a show. It should be starting to go away pretty soon I want to say Sept (I think). There is one good thing about tar weed is that it keeps the fly's off of them. Good luck. The Dawn soap does help break it down.

I didn't know that tar weed was good for fly abatement, that's good to learn. Thank you sassiedogtk.
Caly, it was GREAT to see you tonight!

Well, I'm glad to hear that sticky stuff is good for something! It was great to see you too! We should do it more often!
