A friend of mine here in the TriCities, WA sent some plants growing in her 11 acre pasture to a lab to be identified. There were MANY toxic plants, including deadly nightshade (Belladonna) - 2 or 3 seeds can kill a child, 1 leaf has enough poison to kill an adult. This plant is deadly to horses in small amounts. This plant has no ill effect on cattle. If you put horses in with your cattle, sheep or goats, make sure to check your pastures for plants that are toxic to horses !! Some plants are not toxic to humans but are deadly to horses. eg Avacado. Just like grapes/raisins will cause kidney damage that can result in death in dogs. Maybe save these links in your favorites for reference. Horses usually do not nibble on toxic plants but may be tempted when the pasture grass becomes dormant, so now is definitely the time to check your pastures. There is a lot to be learned from these two links - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_plants_poisonous_to_equines www.naturalhorsetraining.com/PoisonousPlants.html
