I hear there's another source here in Roseburg too - several thousand bales of nice grass - $3 a bale. Maybe I should become a hay broker!

Looks like there would be a little margin for profit. I'll take two tons to start, please!

If we'd stop building houses and McDonalds on every flat piece of land in this state, maybe we'd have land for agriculture!
I know a guy with a semi!

Are these prices for real??? I think we Californian's need to hire a semi to pick up a few tons! And I'm serious! ha ha Yep - they're for real. Keep in mind they are probably 90 lb bales at most - local grass hay. It's not as high in protein as Klamath basin - but the right fields around here produce some nice hay. And personally I like those smaller bales!!! Some of our guys are lucky enough to get on the fields in May. I think right now we're seeing a few more ads because now they KNOW what they need to get by - and what they need to get cleaned out of the barn.

You guys say the word and I'll do some snooping for ya. I'll make calls since I'm local - and I can even go look at it and make sure it's decent stuff.

Sorry, I forgot to pay my phone bill and dsl is shut off at home. I'm such a loser!
How many tons would fit on a flat bed? He normally hauls logs, but since we're running out of trees to cut, he even transports mail during Christmas. Apparently the cost would be prohibitive without a back haul. He would have to travel empty from Arcata to Roseburg and again from Bay Area back up to Arcata. I can get a definite price, but I think it probably isn't realistic, especially considering fuel prices. He has a couple hundred acres he grazes cattle on locally and makes hay, so is familiar with the hay market. Probably would be cheaper (if you have the time and trailer) to get it ourselves.

Ok - this ad didn't show up today - so I called. She is out of the $3 a bale hay - she says the $2 hay is not rained on or moldy - but not horse quality in her opinion. Probably just dried out. She has a list of over 30 people to work through before she can tell anyone if she has any left. =( Sounds like a no-go on this one folks.

Hay or no hay, you're the bomb, D-Doll. Thank you for being our undercover hay angel. (Oh, that sounds like a seventies song I recall ...)
