Holy cr@p, he means to sell her to Cat Tales as horsemeat to feed the tigers.
Would like to cut off his XXXX and feed them to the big cats instead .... tasty treats!

Do they at least shoot the horses first? Most predator sanctuaries take in livestock that folks bring them and shoot the animal and then feed it to their predators.

I don't know if you meant it this way, Tash, but I guess in the grand scheme of things being shot and fed to the tigers locally is a better end than being slaughtered in Mexico.

Hate to say it, but that was my feeling too. No horrendous trailer ride for days, then the smell of death. I'm sure they shoot the animal humanely then, sorry, but it doesn't matter what they do ............I'd rather the flesh be used than wasted.

She's lame and onery...well, Hell's Bells! Whose fault is that, I wonder?
Did anyone call on this by any chance?

We have 2 big cat sanctuary's nearby (Wildlife Waystation & Shambala) and they do not to my knowledge feed live animals to their cats.
Being an animal rescue themselves I would think they would use care to ensure the horses did not suffer and are merely taking animals who would be put down even if they were not to take them. In fact last I heard they had a waiting list.
For many people it is an acceptable end, given that the horses are humanely killed and then rather then being burned are used to provide food for predators... which is really more natural then anything else we would do with them.
I have never sent one of my horses there, but know a couple of people that have. One was a healthy young horse hit by a semi on Hwy 126. The horse had to be shot (multiple broken legs and massive injuries.) Rather then having it hauled to the rendering plant the owner was offered the option of donating the body for cat meat.
If the mare is living in pain, this would be better then many of the other alternatives (like hauling it to auction only to end up God knows where!)

Where are you reading that, I click on the ad, and get nothing but the horses name and a phone number.
I would rather meat be fed to a deserving animal who needs meat to live than butchered inhumanely and served to humans. I would prefer it not be horse fed to the tiger, but it is one of those things that has me on the fence. There are circumstances/situations where I would completely disagree with this and circumstances/situations where I would agree.

Emjay, the ad says the other option for this horse is Cat Tails. That is the big cat place being discussed. No one has had contact from the owner yet, so we don't know why she is lame, or if she is in pain, just that he is giving her away or sending her to Cat Tails.

I called and left a message.
Do we know why she is lame? Something fixable? Has she been seen by a Vet? Hmmm
Being ornery is no big deal ;D

I just sent them an email asking if they live feed or kill prior.

I guess it's best to get it "in writing", but I can't believe that ANY rescue organisation.....cats included........would condone the feeding of LIVE animals. Yes, their big cats need FRESH meat, but they don't have to chase it and kill it!!!!!!

Live "feed" would also pose a risk of serious injury for the cats. Even many snake people stun mice before tossing in the tank to avoid injury caused by prey fighting back.

I actually think this owner is a responsible guy! He could send this mare to auction for a few bucks, but he isn't. Having the cat place come and shoot her and then remove her sounds quite humane! She may be in pain if she is so lame...

Having more information was helpful in knowing how to respond, thanks Chatty. The way the original post was worded, there just wasn't any way to know.
