~ CROSS POST FROM ALEX BROWN RACING BB ~
"I am going to post some pics. She really is a nice looking horse.
Please note: The ultimate goal here is to place her in a loving home, but the owner would like to either work a rescue so there is an adoption contract that the horse can never be sold, bred, etc. or the owner would like to sign a contract with the new owner to state the same.
Please contact me directly. b_kokoruda@yahoo.com
Here is the info I have on her:
Everyone keeps asking if she'd be good with kids or if she's ridable, and I really dont know if she is anymore because I think she might possible have arthritis in her back legs now. About in the first couple of years I had Lakota, I was out riding in some back fields with a friend of mine and her horse and all of a sudden there was some loose barbed wire hidden in the grass and Lakota got tangled up in it and it cut her leg up some and ever since then everytime she walked it kind of made a clicking noise like it does when someone pops their fingers ya know? I havent tried exercising her strenously since they've been bugging her because I dont want to cause more strain to her legs.
She is a Thoroughbred/Appaloosa mare who is about 18 years old now. She isnt registered or anything like that. She was a "rescue" horse in a way because I got her from a trainer that had rescued her from a horse auction where she was going to end up being slaughtered and she had to get her because she is an absolutely gorgeous horse. Anyway, I ended up buying her when I was about in 6th grade I think and at the time our vet estimated her to be around 9 yrs old. We defintely think she has been abused in her past because one time the farrier was doing her feet and she was nuzzling him with her muzzle and he thought she was trying to bite him (yeah I dont know WHAT he was thinking because she wasnt) and then he ended up smacking her in the muzzle and that really startled her and she actually reared up and fell backwards. Needless to say we never used that farrier again and she hasnt done that again with a farrier. However, she does not tie well because she will pull back, but she stands really well. But even besides that, she is just really scared at times, and she just acts like shes been abused. Poor thing... So I actually showed her for a year just kind of trying it out and we actually did pretty good. It wasnt a fancy horse show or anything but we got a couple of ribbons. Not bad for newbies. Lakota was and is a horse that has a lot of energy and she could go and go and go without any complaint. I would label her as a high strung horse and would need a handler that was experienced. If I could get my wish I would just want her to go to a loving home where she could enjoy retirement and have someone that could afford medications for her arthritis since I cant do that. Lakota was my first horse and I will miss her terribly. It breaks my heart to have to let her go, but I want whats best for her and I know this is it."
