This is not an emergency situation, but the guy needs a home and people of his own.
A sorrel Arab cross gelding in his 20's was abandoned by his owner up our canyon last spring. He is being cared for by loving horse people, but they would like to find him a new home. Last I talked to them, he is free to good home. They cut his halter off, have had his feet trimmed, and have been feeding him right along with their horses.
He is small (14.1 h or so). He has always been easy to work with, friendly, and polite. Sound and healthy, as far as we know. He has no complaints about dogs, trucks, 4-wheelers, cows, etc.
A neighbor that is a horse trainer (and is younger than we are so he bounces better), came to take him for a ride. He (the horse) spins on his haunches, sidepasses, and was very happy to get ridden. The trainer's quote was, "That's one broke horse!"
The horse is in the mountains between Pilot Rock and Ukiah (NE Oregon). I will be going up next weekend if anyone would like to come meet him.

That's so sad...
I hope someone will be able to take him off your friends hands. I can understand(sorta) someone letting an untrained horse go like that, but a trained one- seems like finding a home wouldn't be totally impossible.
