a lady called me tonight needing to find a home for her 2 yr old tennesse walker filly, (not registerable) was naturally gaited, but might of had an injury to the back end. has not been seen by vet. solid black with white star, current on everything, she said the filly is ill-mannered, needs someone to work her. all she wants is for her to go to a good home. Doesn't want to advertise her, due to she doesn't want her to go to slaughter.
Anyone interested she's only a few miles from me. call my cell 360-269-5019 (I only get on the computer in late evenings)

Carolyn, What was your impression of her back injury?

i didn't see anything wrong with her, (but I'm not a vet either) she let me love all over her, pick up her feet etc, the owner said that every once in a while she drags her back feet, I didn't see this happen.

that could simply be locking stifles, very common in 2 year olds, they outgrow it, it is an upward fixation/locking of the kneecap from the locking mechanism they use to sleep standing up... it usually happens during a growth spurt when they go butt high, she looks a bit upright thru her hind legs... if this is it, lots of trotting or gaiting and she will out grow it... it is most apparent when you lift the hind legs to clean or trim, and when cantering... btw. might just have a vet look at her...

she said the dragging happens mostly when cantering, but her husband wants the filly to go away, he doesn't want to spend the money on the vet.

They don't know that she FOR SURE hurt her rearend...........they just 'think' she did. Per pnp4kidz it sounds more like it's just a temporary thing. Are you able to take her Carolyn?

I'm thinking about it, but I have 13 others also. but someone contacted me today on her so maybe. she is a beautiful horse though, a small funny about me having her: my husband said i couldn't have her, cause I couldn't jump my butt up there.

I don't see anything wrong with her......not that I could see a locking stifle...........Is it worth it to you to get your Vet to look at her? She has a lovely slopey shoulder- should be really smooth at her gait.

Toeps, Can you recommend a vet in that area and a phone number?
If I wanted to take a look at this filly, I think I would like to have vet check before I take her home.

she's not in a bad home or anything like that, it's just that she needs to be taught. the owner doesn't really want her to leave, but wants to be fair to the horse.

I am far enough away that it would be better to get a recommendation from the owner than to pay for my vet to go all the way there. I am about an hour or so away

Sounds like when the snow melts enough to get there, this little filly will be coming up north to my place in Marysville.
She looks exactly like the filly "Deadre" I rescued off the lot in Oct. 06. Both Walkers about two years old. I hope she has the same tempermant as Deadre/Annie.
Thanks Carolyn

Awesome! I helped bail Deadre- drop dead gorgeous little mare...I couldn't believe she was on the lot! (And I can't believe you were able to give her up to her new owner- it would have killed ME to do it, LOL!)

No answers on the rear end issue. I'll bring her home and keep an eye on her. Maybe she needs some Chiro work?
Time will tell where we go from there.

I'll talk with you just before I come down so we can check the weather for the best day. Sunday is my first preference. I have a trailride scheduled on Saturday ;-)

Sorry I didn't answer sooner, but the dentist did a number on my mouth, so i didn't want to do anything. (2 days there) I will call the owner tomorrow and find about about the 24th.

Sassy (as her previous owner calls her) had never been in a horse trailer before yesterday. She stood at the back of the trailer for a minute or two. I let her sniff and check it out and asked her to move forward. She didn't want to. Finally I asked her previous owner to stand in the front of the trailer while I stepped outside to ask her to move forward. Sassy walked up into the trailer to be with her person (previous owner) as soon as I got out of the trailer. That whole event took about three minutes.
We closed the divider and back door and headed on down the road. I never heard another peep out of her all the way home. We were probably on the road for over four hours. We made several stops and she stood there quietly and no pawing or screaming.
I unloaded her and put her in her own stall with paddock. She was curious but seemed relaxed. There are horses next to her so I'm sure that helps. I'll work on some pictures later.
Thanks for all your help Carolyn & Donna.
