www.youtube.com/watch?v=YddnsXsW9KcThis is old footage from the steel pier and it's high diving horses. They stopped in 1978 when the steel pier was sold. Sonora Webster Carver was one of the original riders.

from what I understand they rescued the last two, a mare and a gelding. The gelding ended up staying with someone else and the mare went to the ranch where she later had a foal. I am guessing she may have been breed at the ranch.
Sonora had retired by then and moved to New Orleans with Al. She just died in 2003 at the age of 99. Most of her dives happened after she became blind due to a diving accident. If I remeber correctly, the dives were originally form 65 feet, then lowered to 40 feet and eventually 30 feet.

There is a movie about her called "Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken". I say it years ago but I did not know that it was a true story.

I love that movie! I used to watch it all the time when I was little.
That is some scary stuff though, I'm glad they don't do it anymore.
