Oh they are real. There is a ranch in Northern CA or up in PNW, called Spots and Stripes ranch, where they breed all kinds of the hybreds. They have a wonderful website describing how they are bred/crossed, what each cross 'makes', as the names differ... like the difference in a mule (male donkey female horse) and a hinny (male horse, female donkey) and the crosses do look different.... they cross zebras with donkeys too... and I asked her for 'fun' what you'd get when you cross with a paint, or even an appy, and this one shows what she told me!!! how fun! the paint comes thru, and so does the zebra striping, but the striping is only in the dark, so if it was an appy, the spots would be striped!!! cool!!! they raise them for all kinds of uses, and have a strict protocol for hand raising but no bottle feeding... it's very interesting how they've teased out the psychie of the foal...

Yes, I'd seen 'zorse's with fainter allover stripes, but this is so clear.
