Has anyone had good luck with Hoof Supplement. Need recommendations.
I have a TB with thin sole and thin walls on front hoofs. I have tried several products over the years.. not much luck. Anything new on the market that works. My Legacy horse need something with an extra kick to it ... I have tried most of the older products and he's been tested .. special diet.. you name it he been there before. One thing I should say we have a very wet winter here in Western Oregon. Jeannie in Salem

My Mom's Appaloosa, George, has had the same problem. We have had the same problem as you, trying all sorts of supplements. Then are farrier heard about and recommended applying Neatsfoot Oil to his hooves. I know, sounds crazy, but it really works. George has great feet now, no longer chipped and frayed. He has the best hoof condition he has had in the 5 or so years that we have had him. I coat his hooves with this stuff every week. It is worth a shot and it is way cheaper than supplements, that's for sure. If you do try it, Neatsfoot Oil is in the leather care section. Good luck!

Sierra came from that area, also an Appy. She had the worst feet I have ever seen for chipping, cracking, and splaying. Of course, take into account that I am comparing her feet to that of my Mustang, so maybe they aren't all that unusual for domestic stock. I never have a concern about feet with Pal, but my girl worries me to death. We started her on Nutra Vet Hoof and Coat, and made sure she had free access to a mineral block. One year later, her feet are much improved, but the grow out period made me nuts!

Check out Sally Hugg's website, and her product CA Trace Plus. It is formulated for horses in California based on nutritional analysis of the hays available here, but it may be that your hays are similar in OR. You could email her to see what she thinks. My girls are on it, and though we are still in the first year of their rescue (thus, growing out some gnarly ugly hooves!) I think they are doing well, and as she says on her site, they do indeed have glorious coat color! Sally, by the way, has a rescued horse, RoboCop, that I believe she got from Joe at TB Friends (I could be mistaken, though).
MTA: By the way, her supplement is really cheap!!!

Been a while since I have posted - BUT I have tried alot of products for feet and for an "on-hoof" product I completely second the Keretex. it is the only product I have ever seen have actual results. It is spendy - about $40 or so for a bottle. But less is more - 2-4 times a week apply to the sole and hoof walls- avoid the frog. Excellent product.
For nutrition wise - first, look at your entire diet - if all is balanced and doing well - i suggest 2 things. Start with a daily free choice loose mineral. I recommend ADM Gro-Strong minerals. Leave a tub free choice in the stall and in turnout areas. 2nd - a product from Select the best called Nu-Hoof accelorator. This is a wonderful product.
I took in a Percheron who had literally NO feet - he was walking on the actual soles with the hoof wall receeded back nearly an inch because of horrible trims and the owner riding on nothing but gravel. He was started on the Nu-Hoof and good overall nutritional diet and within 8 weeks showed 2 inches of new hoof wall growth! That is a miracle as far as I am concerned!!
