Manditory Animal ID Bills

I just found a thread on Serenity Training website (Julianne's) that has upset me very much. I looked through the threads here and didn't see anything so I'm entering it here.

Perhaps you all know about it already, but I'm not sure. This will totally affect everyone of you who has horses or livestock. Horse rescue will most likely be non-existent if these bills pass.

Time in not our friend in this matter. These bills and hearings have been going on this last month and many underhanded actions are going on behind the scenes to derail the "good" bills.

Please, please, take the time to read about this because if it passes, manditory animal ID will be imposed for all animals; ID chips will be injected into your animals; reports will need to be filed if you take your animals off your property, others are brought onto your property, if your neighbors' animals get loose and come onto your property, etc; government officials can come onto your property and seize and/or kill your animals if you fail to comply or file the necessary reports. Oh, yes, a $1000 fine will be imposed for each infraction.

This bill would cover vet visits, shows, sales, travel, dog classes. . .you get the picture.

I can't believe this is happening. Be sure to read all the details on the above website. The comments and letters posted are comprehensive and very clear.

If you live in Washington state there are two bills in the legislature currently to stop this. Look up SB5753 & HB1151. If this link works, apps.leg.wa.gov/billinfo/summary.aspx?bill=1151&year=2007

I contacted my district representative about this earlier this year. Their main reason for wanting to opt out of this federal program is because it's to expensive for the backyard, recreational animal owners.

It's one thing to want to be able to track animals that are part of our food chain (diseased milk cows) and it's another thing to have to track your kid's 4H goat for showing.

If you feel strongly about this, read the link I attached and contact your legislators.

Unfortunately, the approved version of HB1151 is watered down to nothing and SB5753 languishes in committee (ie - is dead).
