I wasn't really sure where this should go, and it is probably a stupid question . Anyways, when I adopted Bandit he had a nice full, thick mane and tail. Which I love, especially on drafts! Recently, as it has been turning gray, it has become progressively thinner and straggly. The darker part of his mane is still thick, but the lighter side is not. So, when he is done graying out, will it come back thicker? If not, is there anything I can wash it in to promote more growth? Our older gray mare's mane isn't very thick either, and she has had it for a while . He is a healthy boy! He eats well, UTD on everything, gets yummy special grain for his growing draft body. Oh, and he just turned 2 for those who don't know about him. Thank you! ;D Here are some pictures, though it is hard to tell: Before - right before major grayingAfter - can't really tell that well, sorry

Ok - Looks like your guy has going on what my percheron does at certain points - although he is black(or orange from the sun as it may seem this year!) Wash the mane at least 3 times a week with a good shampoo like Vetroline. Use something that does not strip the hair though. AFter the fact - put some MTG in the mane. It is nasty smelling stuff and it is oily - put it just at the roots and rub in - wear a plastic glove for sure. Kadins gets caused by bug bits along the top part of the crest - make it itchy so he starts to scratch it - then once the itching reaction starts - the skin gets dryer and dryer - so it just compounds. Keeping him clean and the MTG really works. Also - depending on your diet - make sure you are feeding at least 3-4 ounces per day of full fat ground flaxseed. The other thing you can put him on is a product by select the best called Nu-Image. Feed 4x dose per day for at least 30 days then back off to 2x dose per day. It is a fairly cheap product and works great Hope this helps, Sara in Wa
