Hey Guy's Aegean has warts (YUCK) on her nose/lip. I have some of the topical cream for them. Any suggestions on what works best for them. I have never had a horse with them. Although I have seen them in other peoples horses. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE AN IDEA THAT WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes- Time works, anything else might get you sores or more warts. The kind horses get on their noses ( somepeople call them juvenile warts) are short lived, and they'll fall off themselves. If you try to burn, use chemicals or freeze them off - you can kind of re-set their clock and you have them for another bout. Just look the other way for a while and one day they'll be gone. Sometimes they'll itch them and cause them to bleed- treat that like a small cut w/ topical ointment.

I vaguely remember about 20 years ago that my sister brought in some new show cattle and one of them had warts. One of the horses appears to have caught them from the cow. The vet at the time gave the horse and the cows both some sort of vaccination and they cleared up within 1-2 weeks. I don't remember anyone I know recently treating warts this way though so they may have been a particular type of wart or the vaccine may have been discontinued.

Squeeze one until it bleeds, it will make the body self vaccinate. Usually they will rub one off and then the rest will disappear!!! This is very common!!!

It is VERY common for young horses to get warts. Both of my babies got warts at around 1-2 yrs old (I think) and they didn't last long.

Agreed juvenile warts are yucky but tend to disappear if left alone.

Trevor had a nose full of them, some tiny, some pretty big. He kept rubbing on stuff and they got bloody, but they eventually all fell off on their own.

I have found that the best thing to get rid of warts - squeeze one small one like suggested above, however also beefing up the immune system will help clear them. Kadin started getting them whe he was a yearling after another yearling in his pasture came down with an awful case that covered his face. I started Kadin on extra Vit.C/E and also ran a bottle of Rejuvinex through him. From the time I saw the first wart - they were gone in 4 days! Also - keep the area dry, but moisturized with a good lotion like Keri - don't use something that is oily though like vaseline.

Thanks everyone, I hope it is a short lived thing. I will keep my fingers crossed and try the suggestions.

How about warts in the ear?

Same deal as warts on the nose - although I do suggest trimming the hair away from them. If they get really bad in the ears you may need to have the vet out to make sure that they are not traveling down into the ear canal.

My TB mare had warts under her eye. I applyed vasilene to her eye to smother them ( so the air did not get to them) they died and never came back. An old guy that has been around horses for ever told me to try it and it worked. They never grew back and I watch very closely even to this day.

My father used to use bag balm to smother them....

Yup - I have used the vaseline strick too - the nice thing there is that it won't really hurt the eye in the event that it gets into the eye. Added bonus for sure!
