I buy it from a local apple processing plant ---- we are lucky to live in Gravenstein county (quickly being replaced by grapes). I love the smell. The horses seem to enjoy it, too.

I've read that it needs to be organic? not processed like what you'd get at the groc store. What's the story with that?

Ideally you will find the apple cider vinegar that is NOT processed and filtered. Get the stuff that looks cloudy - that is the good stuff! It still has the natural bacterias and enzymes in it that gave ACV its good rep!
It is great for a variety of things- I find I mostly recommend for digestion issues as well as bug issues. How much you feed depends on alot on the horse. Stanadard recommendations I give are 1/2 cup per 900-100 pounds per day. BUT - I have seen horses who need to be fed up to 3-4 cups a day. Start low to get them used to the taste(unless you have a rare goofball that loves the stuff!)
On a SIDE note - ACV is a great cure for food poisoning in many cases. Found this out a few months back when I had the WORST food posioning I have ever had - ended up in hospital!! Of course I was put on variety of meds - most of which didn't make me feel one ounce better - and a little old volunteer lady came in and gave the recommendation of 1/2 cup ACV in hot water. I was desperate and did it - within literally 6 hours - i felt almost 100% better!! AMAZING. So - now when we go out to eat, I just automatically do 2 tablespoons of it with dinner! Have my little bottle of the stuff in my purse lol!!

Yes, the unprocessed kind is what to get. I buy from the apple juice plant here, and it is cheap, like 50 cents a gallon! It should be cloudy and have some sediment. The flavor is incredible.
This is probably something you can order/purchase in bulk thru a health food supply if you do not have an apple processor nearby.
